A reseasonable and intelligent person would have to suppose that if God gave us free-will we would be able to just be dead when we die and not have to deal with the nonsense of heaven or hell

God made you to live eternally, but you can choose WHERE you want to spend eternity.
That part of our destiny is up to our choice.

There are many things in this life we CAN'T influence with our will, like controlling the weather, for one.

It would be nice if everything was just over and done with at the point of death.
Wouldn't you think that a lot more people would commit suicide, when something seems too heavy to bear, if they only could be SURE that everything will end and be over with?

I think the reason we hang on to life, even if it's tough, is because we know in our heart of hearts that this is not all there is.

Because that would be the destruction of you, with your free will with it. God can't stop free will, and since destroying the free will is stopping it, this obviously is impossible. It's just like, why doesn't God just destroy satan? Well, satan has free will, and that can't be stopped. Thus, Hell becomes a necessity. It is because you have free will and because that free will is free that Hell (i.e., a place without God) needs to exist.

Secondly, people don't "choose" to go to Hell. They are already going there. Hell is the default position. People have to "choose" to go to Heaven.

Thirdly, Hell is not "fire and brimstone", that is poetic language. Hell is the absence of God. Since God is everything that is Good, Hell is the absence of Good. Hence, when you say, "I want to die and not be with God," you are really wanting to go to Hell, because Hell is the absence of God. Which i assume is the reason you would prefer to "die" permanently instead of go to Heaven...then again i am just assuming.

Peace be with you. Please think on this.

Fist thing is to look at your concept of God. If God is Omnipresent and all-knowing, It must be free will that you think you are somebody. Have you made up a God or accepted someone elses made up God? Heaven and Hell are both in the mind just like your concept of God. Can it really be something that can be understood within the mind?

you're misinterpreting the meaning of "loose will" loose will meaning you have the call of Heaven or Hell. in case you decide on Heaven you stick to God. in case you decide on Hell you do not stick to God. in case you do not choose the two you're in all probability and atheist and do exactly not care. meaning if there's a God (i've got self belief there is yet i'm announcing it this way for people who don't have self belief there is) than you will possibly bypass to Hell on the grounds which you have been incorrect and did not stick to Him. If there isn't a God than who knows the place you bypass. you may took the meaning of loose will and twisted it. you % the place you prefer to bypass, God basically places you there as quickly as you have made your determination. If that is Hell, do not stick to God. If that is Heaven then stick to God. you would be unable to have "neither" till you're an atheist and don't have self belief in any of it. if so you will possibly bypass to Hell. not because of the fact God needs you there, yet on the grounds which you chosen to be there at the same time with your "loose will" with the aid of choosing to not stick to God. it is not rocket technological know-how :)

Our reasoning is not God's reasoning and thankfully it will never be so. Why can't we choose to have 3 legs, or live on Venus, or live 1,000 years and many other things we could come up with? We have free will to choose between the choices available. When we go to the drive thru we have free will, but you are not going to get bucket of chicken at Wendy's. If we could just create the choice we wanted then we would be God's ourselves and we are not. I cannot even imagine why you would not want to participte in the treasures God has promised his children, you and I brother. I can't wait to get there. The soul never dies, but we can choose which eternity our soul belongs to!!! :)

As a citizen you have free will to obey the law or not. If you use that will to break the law, the police will arrest you, the courts judge you and the jailer make sure that you freedom is gone... In this life Gos gives you freedom, if you use that freedom to turn away from God and disrespect His Law he will judge you and cast you into a place where there is no escape... Do you understand yet? Those who have sealed their own fate—who have determined never to repent of their evil attitude and nature—will be totally burned up and will become ashes! They will not be tormented forever. They will receive their eternal punishment, not eternal punishing. Their death, their eternal punishment, will last for eternity!
This is what the Bible teaches. The incorrigibly wicked will be totally destroyed—annihilated. But they will not be destroyed capriciously, or unfairly, or because God predestined them never to hear Christ’s message. As we have seen, no one can be saved without accepting the message of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). Through the White Throne Judgment, those human beings who have not previously had their minds opened by God’s truth will have their first genuine opportunity for salvation. There is a future lake of fire that will burn up, consume, and annihilate the wicked forever. That fire will purify the earth for the new heavens and earth promised in Revelation 21. We can all be thankful for God’s justice, fairness, and plan of salvation through Christ. There is judgment coming, but there is also hope for many of your friends and relatives you thought may have been lost!

Once the earth is purified by Gehenna fire, the lake of fire, everyone will either be a glorified member of God’s family (as described in 1 Corinthians 15, the "resurrection chapter")—or they will be dead for all eternity, burned up in the lake of fire. The Devil and his angels (as immortal spirits) will be tormented forever. That is their fate, not humanity’s!

God is a God of absolute justice and absolute love. He will give everyone the opportunity for salvation in His time and in His way. The Devil has deceived the whole world and has blinded the vast majority of human beings on earth today. But God has a plan of salvation, even for the wicked sinners of Sodom. They will have learned an excruciatingly painful lesson and will have their chance in the future White Throne Judgment. And those who have been the innocent victims of injustice and genocide will be healed, restored and blessed with their first opportunity for salvation!

Those who are called, faithful and chosen in this age, will rule with Christ in His Kingdom. They will help teach, serve and rule the earth with Christ for 1,000 years. After this "Millenium" comes the resurrection to judgment. Then, finally, the real hell fire—the lake of fire—will consume the incorrigibly wicked. Until then, we must heed the Apostle Peter’s warning, "Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?" (2 Peter 3:11)

hmmmmmm... your logic is a bit skewed.... you either believe that 1. there is a God, 2. He gave us free will, 3. we choose Him or not Him, which brings us to 4. Heaven or Hell

OR you believe there is no God and you just die... and be dead

you can't conform God to be what you want... He is God... and lays down the choices pretty plain.... have a tantrum and kick your feet and say 'but i just want to be dead' ... God will still let you know if you made the right choice
