Do the side effects of prednisolone go away after I stopped taking the medication?

I am currently on 20mg of prednisolone. The dosage was reduced to the current amout after taking it for six months. I am suffering from side effects such as severe acne flare ups, moon face, weight gain, insomnia, mood swings, occasional muscle pain, excessive growth of hair and stretch marks. I had asked the doctor about the stretch marks and he said that they will become less visible when i stop taking the medication but they will stay there forever. I am so depressed sometimes and really do not know what to do.I want to know whether if i will slim down and the excessive hair grown will drop when i stop medication?

Yes, the side effects will go away once you have stopped the medication. However, with the weight gain you may have to go on a diet to lose some of it.

Prednisone is such an icky medication. Works good, but side effects are awful. Hang in there, things will get better.

Prednisolone/prednisone is awful stuff! Yes, the appetite part is a side effect of the med. I'm guessing you just started it? Another side effect: moon face. Perhaps there is another treatment the dr. can give you, or at least minimize the dose. It's worth asking the question since the arthritis will be with you forever. Try and drink as much fluid (water) as you can to stave off the urge to eat. Good luck and all the best with your treatment.

ive been on prednisone on and off for 3 years now for kidney disease..it sucks i know...all those are normal side effects of the steriod: acne, insomnia, weight gain, muscle pain, even the depression...just hang in there keep in mind its not for long term use and your doctor is trying to get you off of it....i have been off of prednisone since i have used it the weight started dropping my appetite went to normal and the other side effects went away ...good luck i hope it all works out!!
