What does being in an A/C room have to do with global warming? Everything exists in a balance, and we as consumers, are over using our resources, and since the Earth did not create much of what we use, it's fighting back because we largely use polluntants. Enjoying technological advances is fine, just don't take them for granted and live lavishly. Besides, personally, I think A/C is kinda essential in India.

Even though we have had several +30 degree C days here I have yet to use my AC (even though tempted a couple of times). I keep my eye on the weather channel and prepare accordingly. By opening the house all night and letting the inside temperature fall, then covering all the windows in the day, the temperature was kept bearable. If the temperature does not go down at night then I may be forced to use it.

There is nothing wrong in using A/C just because it gives out cfc and makes ozone depletion faster but still you can use it wisely by making the ac run for 1/2 an hour and do without ac for next 1/2 an hour

All of the global warming crusaders, AlGore, etc have already been exposed as being the biggest hypocrites out there.
We all know what their real agenda is - to take away from the masses everything that they themselves enjoy to excess.

People respect a captain who fights in the trenches with the grunts, not a coward who tells us what to do from a distant comfy mansion or from a private jet zooming in the sky with one passenger on board.

Is that person in the air conditioned room advocating that we turn off the air conditioning in our homes?

Questions like this are thinly veiled strawman arguments that distract from the real issues.

In my opinion, we need to set up a system of economic incentives to reduce our green house gas emissions, so that all of us sitting in air conditioned comfort help to pay the guy who's willing to do without it, or do it more efficiently. I say this, sitting here by my energy-consuming computer, under energy-consuming lights in a 3500 square foot air conditioned home. Am I being disingenuous?

this is really a cross situation. but friend if we are to stop global warming at the cost of the development,we will have to learn to be adam and eve.but thats not possible.instead i would suggest a spl tax on all luxuries that affect our earth.but the tax collecting agency must ensure that the tax is spent in planting trees, rain water harwesting ,recycling and taking care of the endangered species. it must be ensured that at least 50% of the tree planted grow to their best. tax should be like 2% of the coast of the thing that is likely to cause global warming etc. wish u global cooldown

It depends...if he' sitting in an AC room that he installed himself then definently he is a hypocrit BUT if that same man is sitting in an AC room at his job he has no direct influence over then it's still not right but not directly his fault. We can only be responsible for our own actions not everyone elses.

We don't have to stop doing things to reduce global warming. We can still have air conditioning, drive cars, go to soccer games, have international conferences, etc.

We just have to do them smarter and more efficiently.

well sure, cause we don't produce the electricity but some believe that it can be produced without coal and are asking the electric companies to fix that.

But hey, there's a Nancy Pelosi on Q&A and no one knows if she's for real either.

Can't see a problem with that. If the advisor is concerned about GW then there's plenty of things he / she can do to offset the effects of running the A/C.

If the advice given causes another person to reduce their emissions than it's had a positive net impact.
