Make a food journal, writing everything you eat for a typical week. Do it actively, not thinking back. When you eat, write it down. Then review at the end of the day, and add anything you forgot.

Add up the calories, divide by seven. You have your daily caloric intake. If you have fatty foods or a lot of meat or carbs, you'll want to cut them back, as that will take away the most calories.

Then choose some form of exercise that you WILL do. That will help you body use extra calories, and add some additional muscle on you, help use more calories.

Try to get in an hour a day walking faster than normal, or something more intense if you can. Then you are using another 300 calories or so a day.

A pound of fat is about 3600 calories. So if you can add 300 calories a day of activity, and remove 600 clories of food intake, you will use an extra 900 calories a day, and lose about 1 lb every 4 days.

If you find the weight loss levels off, try to make your exercise a little more intense, or add some strength training activity, even soemthing as simple as chair squats, in which you sit down slowly, and then stand, repeatedly. Sit backs are easy, in which you sit straight, and simply lean back a little to make your abdominal muscles work a little. Even better, pull them in tight first.

A couple of years ago a friend that I hadn't seen in a while had lost a considerable amount of weight and absolutely just glowed. Her skin and hair looked healthy when I would have expected to see some dryness and sagging from that much weight loss.

She had bought a rebounder (mini-trampoline), kept it in her office as she has work from home business and would get on it at 30 minute or so intervals for anywhere from 3 minutes to 15 minutes, depending on her schedule. On days that she couldn't or didn't get on it that often, she would make time for a single 20 minute session using rebound exercise videos for different moves. I was concerned that it would only exercise the lower part of the body, but it is actually very much a whole body process.

She looks and feels fabulous and the rebounder is still in her office and very much a part of her daily routine. She bought the one that folds in half so she can store it in the closet if necessary, or under a bed.

After seeing how much her health had improved, I bought one as well. While not as diligent as she is (yet) I have definitely lost weight and my legs, buttocks and back have really begun to show some definition. I also have a good bit more energy. I have noticed that if I miss a day or so, my energy levels flag. My intention is to rebound daily. I bought mine at Rebound to Health.

It cost about $200 but is commercial quality and I fully expect it to last me for many years to come.

Hope this helps!

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
