You should have a complete physical examination performed well before you leave the service.

Make a copy of your medical record and DO NOT LOSE IT. Once you ETS contact a local VFW or American Legion post and ask them to put you in touch with a "service officer" because you'd like to file a disability claim. They will walk you through the process and help you fill out paperwork at no cost since these organizations exist to help veterans. Your chances of being awarded a claim are much higher if you go through a service officer.

when you are on terminal leave make sure to make the necessary apppointments with the va and get all the physicals they assign for you its very important because if the army doesnt give you a per centage for disability like me then the va after evaluating the conditions will determine your percentage pension monthly i got 40% for my knee surgery and back pains they will find everything that is wrong with you physically trust me cause if it wasnt for them id be up shits creek with no money and alot of pain lol will soon to be veteran take care and make sure you ask alot of questions cause the dumb question is the one you dont ask... good luck soldier and thank you

you'll go to the VA and be examined by their doctors...they'll also review your records and then rate your disability...10% get'd you to the top of the list when applying for federal jobs...30% (the magic bullet) damn near guarentees you get the job...also the percentage of your disability is tax free on your retirement
