You could be having trouble with carpal tunnel syndrome. For now place an ice pack on your wrist and thumb for ten minutes , several times a day. Advil soft gel capsules will help with the pain, take them four times a day.
You should see your doctor at the beginning of the week.

Your symptoms sound very much like the pain I was experiencing about 15 years ago. It turns out that I had carpal tunnel syndrome and needed surgery to repair it. Take it easy on any repetitive motions like typing on your computer. You may find gripping a pen for a long time quite an ordeal as well. Over the counter painkillers will work for a while, but you will need something a bit stronger. Get to an orthapedic surgeon who specializes in problems with the hand, you can get a better diagnosis.

Thumb pain can be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerve in the neck or tendonitis of the thumb. Take 3-4 advil 2-3 times a day or aleve 2 tablets twice a day for about 1 week. also go to local drug store and get a wrist brace and wear it as much as possible. also resting you hand is essentially.
if there is any numbness, then carpal tunnel syndrome and pinched nerve from the neck are more likely.
good luck

Well, lets see, what happened to it a couple of weeks ago? Did you hit it or something? You had to have done something to it, maybe without you even realizing it.I just don't understand after 2 wks you can't even touch it.You say it looks sore. What,is it all red and swollen? Maybe you should take 2 ibuprofen to stop the pain and call your dr. Tell him your symptoms and see what he suggests. Because after 2 wks a wound should be getting better not worse. take care now.

There are two tests for carpol tunnel. In one you pull your hand back towards your wrist and hold it for 60 seconds. If you get shooting pains, it could be carpol tunnel. In the other test, you hold your hand, palm side up and tap on your palm. Again, shooting pain. See your doctor if it is a constant pain or if it doesn't resolve... it could be something more serious such as Peripheral Neuropathy.
