Hotel Alexander, Belnord Hotel -both on Upper West Side.
Keep in mind, at this price, these are not 5 star hotels, so don't expect much in the way of amenities, views, and you may need to share a bath, but the locations are convenient for what you are looking for.

Not in Manhattan - unless it's by the hour. For $100 a night, look in Jersey or Rockland County - both an acceptable schlep into the city.
