You need to take a CBT to show your insurance company that you are basically competent to ride, your driving licence already covers you for a 125 cc on L plates.

Once you have been riding for a couple of months to get used to the bike, put in for your direct access test which will allow you to ride any bike unrestricted.

Ride safe

Yes you do or you could get banned - you must have passed your CBT before you take it out. The law changed about 10years ago and a lot of people are still under the impression that your driving license is a provisional bike license. You must then go on to pass the full test within 2 years of passing your CBT as your CBT expires after two years.

You should have a provisional category A on your licence, which allows you to ride a 125cc and a power output not exceeding 11kW (14.6bhp), without supervision.

You must first complete a CBT, have L plates front and back, not ride on the motorway, not carry a pillion passenger or pull a trailer.

If you do not take a theroy and practicle test within 2 years of your CBT you will need to renew the CBT every 2 years.

In my state of WI you would have to. Will probably have to take a written test only. That's not so bad. Can look it up on the net and study a little before hand. You will do fine. Enjoy the new bike.

If you live in a state that requires an "M" motorcycle endorsement on your license, yes, you will have to demonstrate you are a competent rider to get the endorsement, which means a written and driving test. They will typically set up some cones, and have you ride the course while they watch.

"i have a full car licence for 23years why carnt i ride 250cc motorcycle." Because the law says you can't. " think if your older than 21 with a full car licence you should be able to ride upto a 250cc motorcycle" Well, fortunately for the rest of us, people with far greater intelligence than you make the laws. It is good that what you "think" won't ever happen.

You must take a motorcycle safety class, and also pass the written/drive test to receive a motorcycle endorsement on your driver license. Failure to do this, and you are caught driving the bike, suspension of your license is possible.

You need to do a CBT (Compulsory Bike Test). This has to be done every two years unless you get a full bike licence entitling you to any any cc of motorbike.

Depending on the state, you may need to take a motorcycle class in order to gain a motorcycle endorsement on your license that will allow you to legally drive a motorcycle.
