It's often Antivirus programs don't work very well and viruses slips through. This is not the case with Norton. Definately try it out here:

get the AVG internet security edition with antivirus scanner,anti spyware,anti spam and a very good firewall and real time protection..get avg internet sec edition free here..this is a full version unlike free version..

I don't think there is just 1 free program that does it all. I use Spybot S & D found at http://www.spybot.com
for anti-virus I use AVG free found at http://www.free.grisoft.com
