Since we're Catholic, we chose to raise our children in our faith. My son just completed his second year of CCD, just made his first holy commuion, is learning all about Catholicism. My daughter is almost 5, she is learning from big brother and us.

Our children know that God created them and that He looks out for all of us. :)

They know that lots of people in the world now and in the past have believed different things about how the world came to exist and what happens after you die. They know that different religions have different rules about how you're supposed to behave while you're alive and rules that you are supposed to follow. They know that many religions say that their god is the only god and that their god made up the religion.

They know that nobody knows for sure, really, which one of these ideas is right, if any are true at all.

So, in the meantime, we follow the golden rule in life, use our brains and hearts to try to understand, and try to live the best life we can while we are here.

I live in a country where religion is taught in school (though it's not mandatory). My children know the very basics of Christianity, based on the Christian Bible. They are however aware that there are other religions in the world and show a healthy curiosity and respect toward other cultures.

I have a daughter on the way. My partner and I are not religious (spiritual, however, borderline Buddhist in many ways) and both are very science oriented. I hope to expose my child(ren) to various cultures and beliefs (being an Anthropologist) including various religions and their origins. Living in Ireland its hard to avoid the heavily Catholic influence of tradition, but we're going to do our best. In the end, they will believe what they want, but as children I plan to teach "the golden rule" and balance spiritual connectedness (respect for others and respect for the living world that provides for them) and scientific thought.

We are Christians, but I believe my children should learn about every religious sect. I believe that accountability for your actions is the basis of religion anyhow.

My children know the basics of Muslim, Hindu, & Buddhism because they have friends who practice these religions. I teach my children that no religion is better than another, just different.

My child who is 21 now was never Churched in religion. I taught him myself about a loving accepting God. I was Churched in religion through out my childhood and was afraid of God and Filled with guilt and that I would not be worthy of Heaven, Terrified by Hell. I taught him Faith, acceptance of the many spiritual paths that lead to God. He is well rounded and educated.

Too much.
I have now taken them
out of religious education class
at school due to scary "fire and
brimstone" stories being told
to them by the teacher. This
to 5 and 6 year olds!!!
If religion was about love and
honesty and being a good person,
I would love my kids to learn it.
But a lot of it is just scaring
them so they are too afraid to
not be religious.

Just the golden rule... which seems to be the basis of every religion... not that anyone can really follow it.
She knows about God, Jesus, and Mary, a few pryaers. That's about it.

Kids do not need to know about religion ! They and you need to have faith in Jesus Christ ! He is the way, the truth and the door to eternal life !

About as much as a six year old can know from going to church regularly and being taught at home. My twenty month old just thinks that we go to this place every week where she plays and people tell her she's cute.
