Why would the devil, being at Gods side and knowing his power, choose to wage a war that he knew he couldnt possibly win? It seems foolish to think that an angel who truely knows God and has spoken with him, lived with him, served him would choose to fight against him.
It would be like a one year old trying to beat up a prize fighter(Just an example). It just doesnt make sense to me.
Does anyone have any insight into this?

I realize the devil was full of pride but a war on God borders on stupidity.
Also how could so many other angels fall into this trap as well?
It seems like God made some pretty foolish angels.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Well,Those reasons are right. That's another thing why he is called 'Satan','Devil' and 'Lucifer' because behind those names it means,'Liar;accuser.' The devil mixes Bad with Good. He is the reason why the world is at war,people don't get along with eachother,we focus on little things,we want to end our lives,we hurt eachother and do bad things because he's behind it all. God did kick the devil out of his garden because he wanted to be in charge so he sinned against God and he was thrown out of the throne. The devil use to be an angel until' he did something wrong. I don't think Satanists are being rude,they believe in Jesus christ,not a spirit that uses people. Jesus christ died for us so God doesn't have to count our sins. The debil does not love you,He uses people.

The devil is not fighting a war with god. Read the book of Job old testament. He would be considered the angel of temptation. If you pass his tests you may go to heaven. He is doing God's work. If you read the new testament and the tests of Jesus in the dessert the devil is only testing him. He never trys to kill him or even touch him. He also never has an army with him. It would seem to me God's Son would be a great prize in a war if you were fighting one.
People believe what they want to believe even when it doesn't jive with there religion. This doesn't make the beliefs right.

The problem is, we do not know what the devil thinks or sees. From our limited view, yes, this would seem really irrational and foolish...but we do not have the perspective nor the knowledge to understand this. All we know is that he did and he does. He hates Jesus and he hates Mary.
Also, from what I see in the world...he's doing a darn good job of getting souls and leading people away from God. He won't win the war, but he's going to take as many with him as he can.

Your example of the one year old is very apt, yet the thing is Satan did not challenge God's power at any time,instead he challenged God's sovreighnty and right to rule mankind, he also made the claim that he could turn every human being away from serving God. He is having great success but he is not winning even with his crafty tricks of blinding people with false beliefs, that, demean, and make God look cruel and uncaring, yet he has not succeeded in turning all of mankind away from God.Still he does not give up, he is working extra hard now for he knows he has a short period of time left to prove his wicked challenge(Revelation12:12), so he and his asccomplices are working overtime to win this challenge, and giving any who try to be loyal to God as hard a time as possible in order to make them give up on God. But you are right he cannot possibly win, and even though hecan't he thinks so much of his intelligence and believes he can do it he will do so right up to the very end.

I found great insight in a book called A Course In Miracles. It helped me understand the difference between frightened, hateful ego (which represents devil) versus courageous, all trusting Spirit (God) which can extend itself only as pure unconditional love. Stay open minded and you will never stop learning. A closed thought system thinks it knows everything already and shuts down to new ideas.(out of fear?) Courage allows us to evolve toward unconditional love, fear breeds hate and keeps us stagnant. Keep reading and teach yourself. The Urantia Book (means The Earth Book) is most interesting if you can think outside the lines.
Stay hungry for knowledge and the peace of mind it can bring.

Necronomica anyone? People ask these questions but report my answers because my truths bother them!
Look at the concept of the war in heaven as many Gods fighting for what they consider as truth! God says in his Bible that he is the one true god! and it is a sin for us to worship other Gods!
I take that to mean there are other gods that he seems to think are beneath him! So what if God and his angels are just a super advanced race that seeded the galaxy, and their technology is just so advanced of ours as to seem magical. Lucifer must have thought there was a chance to beat God or the war would never have happened! God doesn't directly involve himself in our modern world because all his miracles would be studied by our scientists. Sorry but you asked!

Sin makes you do things that are against the will of God, God also gave us all "free will", staying obediant to God, is a test, if you can overcome sin's calling and go against your power of free will, then you are Truly a child of God, God has many laws and he tests our faith always, but it is like a sword being forged in a fire, it makes us stronger in God and the person that God teaches us to strive to be.

God gave Angels freewill, but he did not give them any forgiveness, and Satan was consumed by his power that he thought he could defeat God.
