Not necessarily. However you will not get as good a deal without an MOT.

Simple answer is no. it is not neccesary, but you would be more liable for a strong visual inspection, and doubless they will beat you down on exchange valuation.
If the deal seems woth it then a full MOT certificate is worth paying for. You will re-coup that on the PX deal, especially if looking to buy a nice shiny one.
I am no car rogue, and indeed, I trust, an honest and freindly bloke, but I have to show a profit. It is a business.

I might say - "OK we will put your car through an MOT test, and if all proves well, I will allow X on it if you are going to buy Y
So now I have an ancient Peugot worth abot £500, and he has a Ford Galaxy worth about £8500.
Hey Ho, I shall stick it in the auction hanger and see what happens !
See, not all car dealers are money-grabbing beasts, although there are some around.
If you are confident that the car is OK for an MOT, have a "pre-MOT" inspection to highlight any big problems. I charge £10 for that, and can tick things off the full MOT test, to keep costs to the customer down.

All the best with it,
Bob

Most people would not want a car that has no M O T because there is no way to tell exactly how much needs to be spent on the vehicle to bring it up to M O T standard

Not if the dealer or other person is prepared to accept your car without one. but he cannot drive it until it gets one with the exception that it is being driven to a prebooked MOT testing station. I don't know how you woukld get the insurance to do that though

no , it wont bother the dealer because your car is going to owe the trader nothing or very little, then when he does get an m.o.t and sells it he will have a nice profit

Don't think so but if it doesn't have one could affect the price you get in PX.
