Yes I have asked God "Why me?" almost daily.
Yes, Joni has inspired me, but sometimes I forget and drown in pity.
Yes I believe God can use me and has used me just as I am.
No one has said anything to me directly, but they have inferred it, and I feel like screaming that even though my problem may be physical many of you have hidden ones and should remove the plank first - But I do not. I just hang on knowing that God sees me as a perfect being for His plans and purposes.
A verse that comes to mind right now is:

BUT THOSE WHO WAIT ON THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH: THEY SHALL MOUNT UP WITH WINGS LIKE EAGLES, THEY SHALL RUN AND NOT BE WEARY, THEY SHALL WALK AND NOT FAINT. (Isa. 40:31)

This is more a question of destiny. I believe that destiny only exists within each individual moment, and changes as every moment passes, because of the free will that God gifted all living creatures with. If you believe that God gave all living things free will, then a disability is an unfortunate accidental occurrence. Because of this I think God looks on people who are born or become disabled as very special, but not so special that they shouldn't be treated just like everyone else. Everyone has their own difficulties in life. That's all I can really say. May life treat you well.

Four years ago I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I have never asked God why me.

I don't know Joni.

God can use me or anybody.

God can and WILL heal me.

It is all the matter of faith. God sometime allows us to go through trails and tribulations.

I was a blue collar worker all my life. But now I am unable to carry out the jobs I use to do.

There is no cure for my problem only a miracle. I believe that I can and will be healed. It is according to my faith in Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I must continue to seek the Lord and never give up. We MUST confess by his stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

I was disabled tell God healed me. But I have read books like Joni, and wish I had been as strong through my disability as she is. Disability does not make you less human or less creative, or less intelligent or less faithful to God. Faith is individual choice and when one grows in Christ handicable or not one soon or later will want to share their faith with others because it is part of the growing process. When my dad went to seminary there was a guy with ms with no legs. He did everything that anyone else could do but walk. He planned to be a minister.

Disabled should really be defined as needing to learn or do something a different way. One must step out in faith. I do not know if you are asking for yourself or about someone else but a disability should never stop you from doing what God lays on your heart. He will provide the way to do it. We must rely, whether disabled or able on God's way of doing things and not in our own ability. We has humans often look at our ability like moses did when God spoke to him in Exodus 4. Moses seen public speaking in his ability and not God's ability to put words in Moses mouth. This made God angry. This would be moses's downfall of not seeing the promiseland relying on his ability and not God's.

Here is a verse that might help. Even though it is a reference with salvation. It applies in every aspect of faith.

Matthew 19:26 KJV
(26) But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

We are practicing Christians, although many don't see it that way.
We too were involved in a wreck we shouldn't have survived except for the seat belts that were hooked up as they should be.
Hit by an 18 wheeler in our lane, we were flipped end over end by the back wheels of the tractor. When we eventually came down upright, the cruise control was still working and it caused us to pass in front of the speeding tractor who was trying to stop with his brakes locked.
We passed in front of him and hit the dirt in the middle of the highway (I ,40) 13 miles outside of Crossville Tennessee.
There, we barrel rolled, no one knows how many times. Witnesses couldn't count the turns because they were too fast.
We finally stopped and were recievers of many lacerations and multiple broken bones.
Almost instantly there was a crowd around us trying to help.
But the worst part was the poor handleing of my wife by the ambulance people, and the total lack of attention for more than 5 hours in the hospital emergency room. My wife lay there with broken bones while they treated colds in people who came in while we waited.
I could go on about this, but will just say, we are healing by God's graces, with permanent injuries that will hurt for the rest of our lives.
Did it stop our Christian works?
NO! It strengthened them. Did it make us bitter? NO!
But we watch the front wheels of passing 18 wheelers now.
And of course, your reading what I'm writing...........I search for Jesus sheep, as I always have.................But now I use Yahoo answers.

I am a retired person, mainly due to a previous back fracture, I finally had to retire after 38 yrs. with my employer. Do I question God why I fell from a tree in 1994, & crushed my spine, No, why should I question him, it was not his fault but mine own fault, I can't even blame this on satan, only that satan likes to see people suffer, I am human like anyone else, I sometimes wonder, But I see God has had his hands on my life for many yrs. In 1992 I rolled my truck over going 65 MPH with no sealt belt on & all windows down, I went over a 15 foot embankment, as the truck kept on flipping over & over, it finally came to rest on it's side, & I was not thrown from the truck, in fact I was standing upright through the windows.

Many people were allowed to go through certain things one who has a disability if he don't let his anger destroy him he will mature beyond capability of a person who does not have a disability and might grow wise very wise and be able to inspire many others, but if they let their anger destroy them they'll grow bitter, i have a disability I was born with ceberal palsy, and because of my difference, i learned to accept all people I have a divine acceptance towards people... you see bitter people who have a disability because they chose to get angry.
