Now that is a tricky question isn't it? You need a chicken to lay an egg and you need an egg to have a chicken unless you're going to cook the egg. So my answer possible has to be that I'm waiting for more answers to get the answer myself.

This is one of the oldest jokes around. As a believer, I would have to think that when God created the masses of animals that He did, a 'chicken' was one of them. I believe that the body (humans and animals) was set to be productive and therefore the beginning of a 'thing' would need to start from an 'egg' (development) therefore, I believe that the chicken came first.
