I lost my temper with someone and set out to kill him. I managed to calm down enough to not do it. The next day I saw my doctor and told him that I needed help as I didn't know if I could control myself in the future. The doctor called the police and I spent the next six month in jail waiting for my trial and then sentance. I was given twelve months suspended for eighteen. I would like to know if it was lawful to charge me with threats to kill when asking for help not to lose my temper in the future?

Maybe this was legal - I do not think this is lawful at all.

doctor's are supposed to follow Hippocrate's pledge and are supposed not to tell to anybody what patients told them.
You probably need to evacuate your hate and need also to be quiet and so you need a doctor's advices and a therapy, maybe medication.

Anyhow I think that you were in jail because you set out to kill somebody - not because you said to the doctor that you may not be able to control yourself if you get angry in the future.

Just say to a new doctor that you want to be able to control yourself and not get anymore destructive anger. Then he will be able to help you and wont call the police.

oh gosh you poor thing
what a experience you have had that must of been real scary
going to a doctor for help is a good thing because they can help
but Ive never known a doctor to call police because you never did carry out the threat i can not understand it
i would have thought the doctor would have try-ed to get you help in other ways
i am so sorry for what you have been through
and i Hope you can get on with your life with out having to re live this problem

Yes, you made a threat to the person and it is illegal to threaten people. However, I think a hospital would have been a better place for you. Perhaps you need medication to help you control your temper. Did you refuse to go to the hospital? That would explain why you went to jail instead.

Depending on the state you live in, I recently talked to the local police department because someone was trying to get me for threats and they said threatening isnt a crime unless I actually do it but I live in Michigan.

There has to be more than this to the story. This isn't a crime in California, as it doesnt fit the elements of 422 PC; Criminal or Terrorist Threats.

What more to the story is there?

if you were fool enough to say to your doctor 'I set out to kill...' like you have on here, then yes thats enough youre lucky you didnt get a conspiracy to murder charge thrown at you or youd still be in prison now

im not sure i beliebe the asker , as threats to kill are defined by law as having to be reported by the person who felt threatened.

if im wrong asker please provide us with the details that fit facts.

your doctor must have thought that you were a risk to the public, go to anger management, you will be fine after that, all the best

Clearly it was lawful.

You are right though you do need to seek help and ASAP.
