Brutality comes in many forms, look at the corprations that don't pay equal salaries for equal work or keep women under the glass ceiling.
Look at the judical and law enforcement systems that merely put a restraining order "between" a woman and her abusive spouse/boyfriend only to have her beaten or murdered.

Any culture that refuses to allow a woman to do whatever she wants is oppressive and barbaric. Muslim women do not know what they're missing because they've never know anything different.
It's so lovely to go for a stroll to the park alone or go to a restaurant to eat in privacy. It's wonderful to sit on a subway or streetcar and gaze out the window without having to have someone else with you every waking minute of every day.
I can let my hair fly in the breeze, I can wear short sleeves when it's really hot. In Toronto, Canada, men are largely respectful and seldom ever approach a woman who is a stranger. Men know enough not to bother women who don't know them. On the other hand, men in Canada are not so stupid as to think that if a woman says hi to him that it means he can have her. Women in Canada are much safer than women in the Middle East.
Islamic cultures, especially ones like the Taliban, may think they're superior to the West, but I am a free, educated woman who can sing and dance and play music and watch movies. No man tells me what to believe and I don't have to pray and bow and suplicate myself to any man just because he tells me he is holy and I should believe his every command without question.
I wear what I want, I'm happy and I can marry whomever I choose. I live in a condo instead of a mud hut, I walk down paved sidewalks instead of dirt roads and I ride a bike or a bus instead of a donkey.
Whose culture is more desirable?

You talk about culture instead of islam. I guess you are confusing islam with culture like any other like yourself. A mind cant measure the truth or right if it has a wrong unit of measurement. If you take cultures out of relegions and look at the pure relegions, you will see that Islam gives the rights to its women perfectly. As for "being brutal", that is becouse Muslim countries live with their culture , not with their relegion. And until they come to their relegion again, they will be like this, brutal and unevolved. Whenever they begin to learn and live their relegion, they will be like Ottomans, Emevis, Abbasis. If you look at the history, you see that untill this century, muslim world ruled the world because they applied their relegion. When they left Islam, they become exiles. I think you became one too. That s too sad. I wish you learned a little of your relegion.

yet there is the sense of autonomy that's substantial. it incredibly is like figuring out directly to stay with the incorrect ideals or being compelled to stay with them. stress is punctiliously unacceptable under any circumstances. no one can decide who's desirable and who's incorrect. How might we like it if human beings compelled us to do what's "desirable" in accordance to them? The jap way of life isn't any much less objectifying of ladies human beings. The Mukhtaran Mai case is basically between the various. Prostitution and trafficking of ladies human beings is rampant in Iran and Afghanistan besides, yet right here women incredibly everyone seems to be compelled into it. The Indian subcontinent (Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka) has the optimum inhabitants of AIDS contaminated sufferers, very almost all of them transferred sexually. it is regardless of prostitution being unlawful in those international locations! think of if it have been criminal?

The difference in attitude of islam and christianity to women is only a matter of degree. Christianity is also degrading to women. Catholics are most explicit in giving them second class status. Wasn't it a woman who created original sin?

No, I disagree. Anyone can learn. Slowly, perhaps too slowly, Arab men are learning that there is much benefit to alliance with a strong, capable, intelligent woman. I have met several that are really fine gentlemen and have good respect for women. Of course, I met them here in the US, and so they may not represent the average in their countries. But still, however slowly, people can learn.

How can they? Men and women are different and therefore contribute in unique ways. It's like putting all the weight on one side of the see-saw.....it's not going to move. You only have one side without women--and it's lopsided.

Christianity is just as bad. There may be women serving as priests and ministers, but still... there is a wide divide.
In economic structures woman are considered worth less... why? I dunno... It is stupid. Women usually tend to work harder... maybe because of the social pressure and the desire to overcome oppression (but as has happened with other people who fight to rise from oppression, they usually sink into the muck from much wheel spinning and not much pushing).
