If the atheists would start their own category, can Christians and people who are not close-minded about God agree to give them their space? Maybe we could teach them some manners by example. Before I got on this Q&A site a short time ago, I mistakenly thought there was some organization and thought put into the answer. Now I see it is little more than a free-for-all. How sad. Since the atheists seem to lack incentive to actually start something, let's help them with a name for their own category. Now, let's be good, and give them their own space so they will be forced to think instead of just tear us down. Let's help them out.

How true to form to name-call after showing up to an invitation affair. I think our numbers warrant a site for serious theological questions, possibly polite doctrinal discussions without remarks like you just made. You just can't stay away from us, can you? What draws you to us so? And as a daughter of the Living God, I say watch your tongue.

As a Christian, I can only beseech other Christians as to our behavior, but nothing was said about other Spiritual beliefs, only to atheists who claim to have no belief in Spiritual matters. What do you want to contribute on Spiritual matters. I love a good debate as most of us do, or we would not be here, but if your mind is closed to the possibility of a Higher Power, why bother. Could it be that we are the most alive people to engage in a dialogue. I am sure you bore one another in short order without someone else's belief to tear down. Agnostics are a breath of fresh air, and are quite interesting.

I agree, unfortunately Yahoo decided to group us all in this cat uh gory .
They could add another two gropes without deleting these. One for strictly Christians and one for strictly atheist.
These ADDITIONAL groups would add flexibility to Y and A .
Whatcha think ?

What for. I've nothing against athiests who bring genuine well thought out debate to the table. I personally make a point of researching every good point that I think an athiest raises to see if there is a legitimate and reasonable defence. The truth should be able to withstand such criticism and scrutiny. When I discover there is a defence it strengthens my faith. So far I haven't come up against an argument I haven't found a reasonable rebuttal for. At the end of the day athiests and Christians (or other religious types) are presented with the same data, it's just our interpretations and viewpoints that differ.
However I have low tolerance for the self righteous idiots who do nothing but bash religions and their followers simply because "they are right" and we are "Stupid".
You should certainly look into things if you are going to mount a credible challenge. Likewise if you want to present a credible defence.

It's always apartheid with you Christians who want to wrap yourselves up away from any outside influence and hide, separated... Christians only!
It shows how scared you are and exactly how unsure of your phony beliefs you must be.
So here's some interesting food for thought:
Perhaps when the research results come in from the new Hadron Collider at CERN recreating the conditions that existed less than a billionth of a second after the Big Bang then the so nick-named "God's particle" or Higgs boson may be identified and we will have a fuller explanation of what gives particles their mass...it will be a giant step nearer to a confirmed scientific explanation of creation.

To quote a tennis great "you can't be serious!". Just like a christian, wall the people off over there who don't share you view. So what will you christians do next, attack and wipe out us atheists to cleanse the world. Nothing appeases the christian god better than the spilling of non-believer blood. How can you assume an atheist is closed minded to god. It is the height of christian arrogance to suggest that because you believe in god you must be more open minded. I would argue that people who have at least contemplated and thought about the existence of a diety and rejected the existence of a diety are more open-minded the those that just blindly believe due to cultural influences. Religion is responsible for more pain and suffering in the world today than anything atheism can be blamed for. Hindu's must be more open minded than christians, they believe in much more than one god.

I think it is one thing to lead by example, but not all atheists are trying to tear "us" down. I myself am a Christian, but I am a deist. That means I think that God is God, and that Jesus was really just a man. A man who was important to people understanding God better, but a man nonetheless. If you would call an atheist rude for trying to explain the theory of evolution, plate tectonics, or astrophysics, then I think you set the wrong example. Science is not a matter of belief. Science is rigidly tested by trial after trial. Religion, and belief in God, is a personal journey. If you were to do a survey asking 50,000 random people to give a detailed description of what they believe in spritually, you would get 50,000 different answers. If you were to ask the same number of random people to explain the chemical description of water (ie. H2O), you would get a large group of the same answer. The two are separate. They are not "fighting" or "arguing" with each other. Let us not forget that the bible was penned by the hand of man. God may have put forth the information, but perhaps the man that wrote it down did not understand the idea of evolution, so God had to simplify it for him. The same goes for physics, and geology. You see, the ideas in the bible, the quaran, the torah, and any other ancient text like those are colorful examples of people trying to explain the world around them in terms that THEY understood. As far as I have seen, God has not spoken about evolution, geology, or physics being wrong, and I have talked to God about this many times. God has told me that fighting about the ideas is wrong. If someone can't understand science, let them have their colorful version that they can understand. If science appeals to someone more, let them have that. So, in short, I don't see the point for atheists to have their own group. They should not verbally attack people for believing something different, but do not act like all religious people are innocent either. It is a ridiculous argument in a world that has far more dire problems to be fixed. Like the fact that our illustrious President is trying to build an American missile silo in the middle of Europe to "keep the peace." Maybe if more people in this country argued with each other less about personal beliefs, our government wouldn't have been able to go as far as they have in pissing the world off and thus putting all of us little people in the line of fire should someone choose to invade us. Think about it. May life treat you well my friend, no matter what you believe in.

Sadness is a sign of healing, now get back into the fight! (I'm speeking of a spiritual fight) Why would you want to segregate yourself, from the folks who need you the most? This site is not a temple, it's more like a den of thieves. Folks go out into the real world, steal ideas, and bring them back to share! So, what you got?

i'd be happy to...nothing bugs me more than when someone asks a question about a particular passage in the bible and its meaning and/or application, and at least half the responses include put-downs and insults towards people of faith...or when someone asks for prayer for someone and there are sick and hateful responses along the lines of 'shut up, there is no God', or 'your sky daddy doesn't exist and can't help you'...of course, freedom of speech exists (thankfully) and i support it wholeheartedly, but it would be nice if those who have nothing to contribute except hate and ignorance would just go play amongst themselves so the rest of us could have an actual exchange of actual ideas...

I think you're asking the impossible of a lot of anti-Christian folk who populate these Q & A forums - expecting them to leave this area and voluntarily go to an atheist forum. Most of them would rather troll. It doesn't bother me though - I look upon it all as an opportunity to hone my arguments and apologetics, and good practice explaining and defending my Christian faith.
I would have absolutely no problem staying out of a strictly atheist discussion forum. I at one time used to be an atheist myself, and I am familiar with all of the atheist arguments. So nobody there would be breaking new ground, or telling me anything I hadn't already heard.....
