I was watching BB, the other Night when one of the housemates called another housemate a ''n*****''(apparently she was not being racist, but the word was not necessary to use at all). She got kicked out the house for her actions. I don't believe that a name that people used to beat you with can become a term of endearment (even between black 'yes even if it is spelt with an 'a'). But seriously don't people realise that once you say something, and it offends people you can't take it back, by making excuses for yourself. Why don't people think b4 they speak????? Especially if you have a wider audience????? Let me know your views, is it ok to say something, and then excuse yourself when it call goes wrong (regardless of if you meant to offend or not).

YES..I'm sure that we have all said things that have hurt people, and some people learn from there mistakes. I think that it is pure ignorance to say something that you know will offend someone...especially if they are trying to become friends with someone. The issue I am talking about is not about race, its about using inapproriate comments at someone, and being ignorant to the fact that you can offend them and others around them.

Let me state again what I have already said. You cant take word that people used to insult you with and turn it into a word of endearment. E.g b***h, n***a, b*****d, can never be seen as positive words. I do not condone people calling each other names even if they are of the same race, gender, sexual orientation. So can people stop writing....this black man on the telly called another black person n***a, because its all wrong, it can never be good. My rule is dont let no body call you names, because you have to accept every bad words as an insult, not a term of endearment.

we are in a society that promotes the fallacy that just by saying "i'm sorry" makes everything all better. i was taught that just saying "i'm sorry"s don't cut it. if i do something wrong or hurt full, i have to take ACTION to correct that. i have to make it right. people today throw "i'm sorry"s around like confetti, the words become meaningless.

I didnt watch it so I cant comment on the way that it was said but yes it was quite shocking for an elegant looking girl to say such a word, but with BB they are all totally thick.

I would never use such a word but I do feel these days if someone is joking with another and gelling relationships and things, as soon as the media get hold of it the conversation, and transcibe it to black and white; it would be construed as a racist slur.

People say dumb things all the time, call a fat friend "Tubs" call a short friend "Tiny" call a blonde friend "Dumb" call a red-haired friend "Ginge". It's not just racial words. They don't mean to offend and often think they are just trying to be friendly. They "think" but get the answer wrong!

I've found the best way to deal with it if a friend says something that you find hurtfull is to calmly tell them that the name they used hurts your feelings and you'd rather they didn't use it. You'll probably find that they are mortified that they hurt you and fully apologetic. That way you are being a good friend too and helping to educate them to be more aware of peoples feelings and maybe stop them making the same mistake and hurting somebody else who might not have the courage to speak out for themselves.

I cant get over the fact that someone uses a word that offends (even if it just offends ONE person...it still hurts them!), as a 'joke' term...or like you say a term of endearment.

And then you get all the bloody loons who think freedom of speach when it comes to this is more important than the basic feelings of another human being.

Thats why the world is screwed up....not one of us is allowed to be upset by someone elses words.

As a child I had a battle of "words" with a friend and came off rather badly. My mother's comforting arms went round me and she said: "If you want to throw stones then don't live in a glass house". Or, there is another phrase that comes to mind, "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me"! Or do they?

Whatever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me?"

Nonsense. Remove the double standard or remove the ones whom are offended. Either way Britain would be better off.

Tell me, why can a black man call another black man that, yet a white man can't?
Why is it ok for one entire race to use a word but not anyone else?

There are of course some valid excuses in certain circumstances, for example mental health issues. But on the whole no, there really is no reason why you should not think BEFORE you open your cake hole.

Trust me, it gets annoying. People just don't care these days, I mean whats gonna happen, it's not like the person who was insulted is going to beat them up or something (even thught I have beaten people like that up once or twice). Just ignore them and wish they would get beat up and learn their lesson.

Even though this was a really stupid thing to say. Have you
ever said something really stupid out of anger or in a miss
communication???? Like being out with a friend and called
them a dumb---, or bit-- or something , I think we all have and
have regretted it, we are human and sometimes just pretty stupid.
