Bread can be fattening because of the starch content (which includes loads of carbohydrate) but on the other hand, bread contains fibre and fills you up providing you eat sensibly.
Brown bread is definately the best bread out of the two and should not cause weight gain if you eat say two slices a day (in your sandwich for lunch). Try eating a balanced cereal like 'All Bran', Muesli, Porridge or Shredded Wheat. If you are trying to weight, than by all mean looks for 'diet types' like Special K.

Is the bread colored brown, or is it whole grain? What are the other ingredients? I will not eat wheat bread or white bread (though when I've come to a dinner hungry, even eating before hand, I will take a roll from the bread basket, especially now that I'm pregnant; Sometimes I think that some food going to the baby is better than no food), but I will eat whole wheat bread. I refer to wheat bread as wheat flavored white. Usually, if the front of the bread bag reads "wheat bread" the first ingredient in the back listing is "enriched wheat flour". If the bread is whole grain, i.e., whole wheat, the first ingredient is "whole wheat flour". I also stay away from breads with corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup, especially now with the baby. I don't need that junk in my body, and the baby needs it less than I. I adamant about reading labels and after comparing the fronts of packing to the actual ingredients list, I wonder if other consumers actually read labels also.
All told, I usually have two to four slices a day, depending on what I eat.

Beware the words BROWN bread - Some brands are refined and simply coloured with brown sugar!
Opt for WHOLEMEAL instead.
It's true that too much bread can be a bit fattening but the amount that you give sounds fine. Just watch what you actually put into the sandwich.

All bread is packed with carbs, but whole weat bread is the better choice. It has fiber that helps wash out fat that you ingest and has alot of nutrients that white bread doesn't. If all you're eating is 2-4 slices a day, i wouldn't freak out.

Go for protein rather then sugar to keep energy levels going strong rather than crashing. Edamame in pods would be the perfect snack since it takes a little while to eat and a one-cup providing offers 12 grams of protein.

Eaten in moderation no it doesn't....doesn't sound like you are going over the top with how much you describe as being eaten there....it also depends upon what else you are eating too during the surely?

Eat in front of a person rather than screen. It cuts down on mindless eating and makes you more accountable for each mouthful.
