Was the reason that he/she said this about your teeth related to tooth decay or gum disease? If it is gum disease related you need a very thorough cleaning (2-3) appointments. Follow-up every 3 mo's for maintance. Floss or use some type of cleaning device for between your teeth one time a day. Brush the gum tissue with a soft brush for 2-3 minutes at least 2 times a day. Change your brush every 2-3 months. If your gums bleed with brushing or flossing, keep it up. It is not the device, it is the plaque causing the bleeding. It is your goal to get them to stop and stay that way.
If it is tooth decay causing your problems, be very careful with sugary foods and drink. Use a non-sugar type sweetner in all drinks and gum or mints. Drink soda pop sparingly, even the diet ones because of the carbonation. Fix the teeth a few at a time if you need too. It is better to do 1 or 2 a year than to just say, "I give up". Dentures are not always a great answer for everyone and there is no going back once you are there. Have the dentist treatment plan your teeth. Take out the ones that can not be saved to ward off infection to your body. I'm not sure what MA is. Is that medicare? medicaid? If I remember correctly medicaid will, but not sure about medicare though. Look for special dental programs in your area. Sometimes local dentists will get together to provide free dental services instead of going to another country for charitable contributions. You can also check with social service programs such as Salvation Army or Good Will. They may know of dental type aid in your area. Good luck to you.

What exactly did the dentist tell you? Depending on what your dentist found, it may be true. Brushing at least twice a day and flossing at night are little things that can make a big difference. Make sure you get your teeth cleaned every 6 months. Diet contributes to the health of your teeth as well. Soft drinks and sugar intake frequently can cause cavities. I'm in my third year in dental school and thought i'd put in my 2 cents. Hope that helps!

Use a toothpaste formulated to regenerate teeth and gums. Here's the information on it:

Sunsmile Herbal Toothpaste

There are hundreds of toothpastes out there in the market, but none of them are as good as they really could be. They have fillers and substances which create foam (soap).

History
When Dr. Chen created the Sunsmile Toothpaste he wanted to break the typical toothpaste mold and start from scratch. Without looking at what had been done in the past, he created a product that could do what toothpaste is intended to do, clean the mouth, teeth and gums. He designed a new herbal toothpaste that is unparalleled. It cleans the teeth without soap (sodium laurel sulfate), abrasives or harmful chemicals like fluoride to kill germs (Fluoride will etch anything, including glass; it actually eats up and dissolves tooth enamel). It does not have saccharin, artificial colors or flavorings.

Uniqueness
To explain the uniqueness of SunSmile Toothpaste, Dr. Chen put micro-encapsulated enzymes into the toothpaste. These are enzymes which digest the food particles left between the teeth. When you brush your teeth the capsules break open and release enzymes into the mouth, cleaning up left over food particles that otherwise feed bacteria. Most toothpastes are designed to dissolve plaque or scrub it off. But, Dr. Chen goes straight to the source. If there is no food for bacteria to eat, plaque will not be created in the first place. Additionally, the toothpaste has neem oil which kills bacteria in the mouth and more herbs designed to nourish the gums than any other toothpaste on earth. These herbs allow the gums to heal and regenerate. The power of this toothpaste is unquestionable. There are hundreds of stories about people’s success in healing their gums and teeth with this toothpaste, ranging from gum sensitivity, to pockets in the gums, and less time in the dental chair getting cleanings.

Your dentist told you you could lose your teeth in 10 years, but he didn't tell you what to do to keep them and make them healthy? That dentist is a dork.

Brush with a flouride toothpaste twice a day and floss everyday. Eat sweets sparingly. Don't drink soda pop, the phosphorus robs your teeth of calcium and the citric acid slowly rots your teeth. Drink milk to get your calcium. Chew sugarless gum. Don't do drugs, especially Meth, they'll ruin your teeth. See a dentist once or twice a year.

Sounds like you may have perodotist/gum disease. So do I and so did my mother, in her later years, she started losing her teeth because the gums were lose. Basically because she could not afford denture care when she was younger and when she got older the disease had processed much greater.
You need to start now getting regular check ups and getting things fixed. You don't have to do it all at one time but start and once you start it keep it going for every six months.
