You say your beliefs are not a religion. You say you are not a cult. Why do you participate in a forum like Religion and Spirituality? It makes me think you must be looking for something or you wouldn't be here. Certainly you know you are no more likely to convert someone who is religious than they are to convert you. What drives your participation?

Becoz they really want to know the truth. Plz let them ask and posed the question/answer. Encourage them and don't tease or disheart them.

1) Religion and SPIRITUALITY. Atheists can be spiritual.
2) This isn't called the "For the religious" section. It's the "religion" section. Atheists have opinions on religion. It's that simple.

EDIT: I have turned people away from religion - 3, in fact. I didn't mean to, but my questioning did it. Many logical people will turn away. And I'm agnostic.

Are you seriously saying that those who do not agree with your rather warped view of reality have not right to take part in the debate? Yet you have the right to try to force that view through the legislature, indocrinate it into young minds and insist on it as a basis for legal codes? There is not a word in English for how totalitarian and extreme that is.

Your comments are enough to prove that society and its individuals need protecting from religion. Indeed the founding fathers of the US realised this long ago if you read their speaches Indeed the Treaty of Tripoli on which the creation of the USA was based in 1797 states:

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion"

I answer questions because I have the absolute right to do so. I address questions like yours that are directed towards me, the atheist. You won't find me answering questions about bible quotes.

I also answer those questions that are clearly based on ignorance. Like "why can't you accept that this country is founded on xian principles?" It wasn't.

Just because we're atheists doesn't mean we're not spiritual. Being spiritual isn't exclusive to the major religions of the world.

And though we know we're probably not getting through to people like you when we pose logical, intelligent points and explanations, we hope that maybe you'll question your beliefs instead of just accepting the spoon so freely.

You don't need to be religious to be spiritual.

Many are looking for intelligent conversation.

Then there is always the opportunity to get people's goats.

I'm not an Atheist, I'm just guessing.

I disagree with your premise that "you are no more likely to convert someone who is religious than they are to convert you".

An open intelligent mind applying valid logic and not under duress can discern what is true so the acceptance of atheism is much more likely than the rejection of atheism by someone who has truly considered the evidence.

DRINK!!

What drives my participation? Ummmm the fact that religion effects my life just as much as the next guy when it comes to legislation and fundamental liberties. This means I have just as much to say about religion as anyone else even though I don't adhere to any.

And hey, while we're on the subject of who ought to be where on this site, do you think humans should answer questions in the dog section if they are not in fact dogs, or should only dog owners answer? Should only celebrities ask and answer in the Celeb section? Should the environment answer for ITSELF in the Environment section???

Because religion is something that effects us and our society and we have opinions to share on subjects that effect so many.
Besides, aren't you interested in hearing any correct answers?

And don't be so pessimistic. There's always hope. Logic is pretty powerful stuff. I have faith that at least a few will see the light. We won't give up on you.

Because the majority of atheists on here are ex-theists and in many cases happen to know much more about religion than theists do.

It's not likely but just because someone doesn't believe in god doesn't mean they can't be religious and or spiritual.
