I'm kind of luck. I live in London and only need a zone 3-4 travel card. It costs me £57 per month. I can use the buses to go anywhere in London on that at the weekend. The only downside is that it gets very crowded though.

I am actually a public transport fan and use it when practicable and convenient. However when my company changed locations some years ago i was faced with a choice. Do I use my car and get home sometime between 35 and forty minutes or do I use public transport which would tale me about 90 minutes on a good day and over 2 hours on a bad one. Incidently a push bike would have taken about 90 minutes but i'm not in to suicide
No prizes

I pay £21 for a Multi-journey that entitles me to 12 single journeys (one way). I travel 10 miles to work on the bus in the morning, and the same again in the evening. A friend of mine pays exactly the same, but travels 20 miles each way. The company that sells these tickets is absolute rubbish and the drivers are REALLY dangerous.

I am in Miami, FL and commute 35 miles one way. Metro-Dade Transit has a monthly pass that allows me to ride the bus and transfer to the elevated rail train (MetroRail) for $75.00/month. If I pay cash, it is $3.50 for a round trip. I was spending $75.00/mo just in toll fares on the turnpike, and when gasoline hit $3.00/gal, it was costing me more to go to work than I was getting paid. I work nights, but there is no difference in fares. My employer provides the pass if I turn in my employee parking sticker.
