There are many medical tests which involve measuring electrical activity in the brain (eg, the test for sleep apnoea). I have some electronics background and would be interested in trying to measure these myself. I expect to use a signal amplifier and display the output on an oscilloscope.

Where would I place the electrodes which form the input for the amplifier? How critical is their placement? What sort of potential differences are we looking at?

Any info that would help me design a suitable circuit would be greatly appreciated.

(I am aware of the necessity for electrical isolation and similar prevtitive measures to prevent injury in case of an electronic failure).

Pl. do an internet search (research) about EEG. That will give you the ideas.

It is an established field and unless you have specific reasons for it, no point in reinventing the wheel.
