Making stuff up and then deciding that "God" had somehow given them the answer...whether the answer they come up with is right or not.

It's called the Pat Robertson Method.

Ask the Holy Spirit who is the author of the Bible and who lives in you for guidance. When two approaches are given in the Bible eg "spare the rod and spoil the child" and "do not provoke your children to wrath" we should look to the Holy Spirit to show us which approach to take. The contradictions are there for a purpose so that we have to seek the Holy Spirit's direction to apply the right word to the situation. The Bible gives us a general direction but the Holy Spirit in us gives us specific direction on God's word. So we cannot rightly apply God's word without the help of the Holy Spirit. It is not just the word has to be right but the timing of its release as well. These only the Holy Spirit knows.

What question/s?

Such as:
Which is a better vacation spot, Hawaii or Florida? (search for Macadamia chocolate covered nuts)

Which car should I rent? the Lincoln or the compact Toyota? (check which leaves most money for cookies)

Is it by random choice I get a snack of by intelligent selection? ( I chose intelligent selection, no stale bread for me; no, fresh chocolate covered donuts)

That kind of questions?

Say if I am assembling something, than I read the instructions to do it. The Bible is just a book of instructions for us. I still haven't found a situation in life where the wisdom within it, did not apply in some way.

I seek God, Himself, and ask Him. He ALWAYS, unfailingly, provides me with an answer.. especially when I wait for an answer. It proves His reality to me over and over and over again.
