because we don't need to use it anymore. i was a Bradley driver in Iraq. we had DU rounds but we never had to use them because they are for piercing enemy armored vehicles which they don't use anymore. we haven't used them since we took Baghdad. we only used high explosive rounds while i was deployed in iraq

It does. Just not the "mainstream" media. I heard about this way back when the war first started. Radioactive debris left in public spaces and contaminating Iraqis. Really, really horrible. But hey, it's an easy solution to getting rid of depleted uranium and using a hard material for shells. Kill two birds with one stone. After all, "who cares, it's over there, not here."

Depleted Uranium is used for armor-piercing ammunition and as a component in the armor on tanks. If there are no armored targets to attack, DU munitions wouldn't be used, or even issued. It'd be a waste of resources. High explosive rounds work better on cars, trucks, and walls anyway. If the terrorists had tanks and APCs, you can be guaranteed that our troops would be using DU munitions.

The radioactivity from depleted uranium is very low. Slightly higher than being in a coal mine. IThis is because the radioactive U-235 has been extracted from it. It has been reported in main stream media, even in the first gulf war. You just didn't notice, probably because there were other things to make people worry about.

This has come up many times over the past 15-20 years it was reported many times after the first gulf war that soldiers were getting sick from handling these rounds.

because it is depleted it is not radioactive any more. so it is not harmful in that way. we would not expose our own troops to radiation or there would be a BIG fuss about that
