What do my American peers think those people in DC should do? Does anyone of you have ideas? Good Ones (not ignorant 4th grade ideas).
But you can't use the following. . . .
1- Deport them all (not possible)
2- Send them to Iraq (someone said that somewhere)

And that's all I coud think of..

OK come on, these people are not going anywhere, you can't deport them.
Let's stay smart here when answering, ok?

I reported "YAY NO AMNESTY!" so you don't have to worry. I happen to be MExican American and I took offense to that because of the fact that he/she was ignorant and immirgants come from all over the world. (that phrase is used towards Mexicans).

People in DC are saying it's not possible to deport.

I alse don't think enforcing all laws agaisnt all undocument immigrants in all cities because that could make their lives a living hell, their kids could go hungry, their parents are not going to go back to their countries no matter what. it will probably get worse, families will be borken apart. American children born from these undocument people can't be without their parents and would not be fair if they are taken back.

Keep on going.. .

I mean, DEPORTING them is not going to happen, so don't give me that.
You can say it's possible but that will not happen no matter what. That could destory Americas image even more (which includes the War in Iraq).

When found here without authorization, people are always put in deportation/removal proceedings. Additionally, the government is stepping up its initiatives to find more people here illegally. It used to be that they only focused on criminals, but now they are raiding places and arresting lots of people who haven't committed crimes, but are only present without proper authorization.

As for what I would suggest -- I would not make it so hard for people to win cancellation of removal cases for non-permanent residents. This is a defense to deportation for people who have been here 10 years or more. It's almost impossible to win. I would take away the 3 and 10 year bars and I would bring back a true amnesty. Oh, and I would also open up 245i again.

At the same time, I would continue to push for a more secure border where less can come through illegally. That is happening and it will continue. It just takes time.

How about doing nothing? I'd like to recommend that nothing be done. Its not a popular idea, and I expect to be rated down, but honestly, the compromise bill was going to be unworkable, and it was the closest we could come to some sort of just and rational solution. I'm worried that the next attempt will be worse.

That wall is going to be built anyway, so we might as well finish it, even if I think it is a going to be a wasted effort.

I'm going to guess that immigration reform is a lot like the health care reform that was close to passing 15 years ago. Everyone knows that there is a problem, but since bills cannot be passed, Congress hasn't seriously attempted to tackle the issue in 15 years.

Get used to the status quo, because that is what the Senate voted in favor of today. Since the Congress will do nothing, then I recommend that nothing be done and that politicians stop running on what they're going to do about the immigration issue, unless they admit that they are going to do nothing.

Don't deport them.
Make illegal immigration a felony.

It IS a felony in Mexico. Any one complains, point to Mexico.
When you catch them, send them to jail. Any profits they made in the U.S. (all of it) was illegally gained and is confiscated. The children are put into foster homes (probably a whole lot better for them than the conditions they are living under) until the parents are free, THEN deport them, spreading the deportations over many years and doing it only with those caught inadvertently (like for other arrests, false applications, etc.).

In addition, pass an I.D. law for voting (with a delay to be sure people who need one can get one) to protect our country from illegal voting by the same illegal immigrants.

If the countries in question (and you would be amazed how many white Russian illegal immigrants there are) want to pay for the deportation, let them leave immediately.

When people complain, say exactly that. If the complaining countries want to complain that we won't pay to deport THEIR citizens, ask why THEY won't pay for it!

Since we aren't deliberately hunting them down, we don't incur any extra costs, and the cost for the jail terms will be greatly offset eventually when people DON'T want to come here illegally.

One more thing: Anyone who comes illegally can NEVER come to this country legally, period. They have given up their chance.

Treat them respectfully, but apply the law. They'll deport themselves.

Those that come here legally and become citizens? Those are my brothers, fellow citizens. Glad they're here.

1) lock down the borders - there is already a fence in progress - add extra border enforcement and stop the flood. If we can't stop the flood, they are unlikely to get any more Americans to agree to anything other than mass deportation
2) create an unalterable biometric ID and require all undocumented workers to document themselves - don't want to do it? If you are caught - no questions - no trial - you're out
3) Locate all the bad dudes and deport them immediately (1 strike and you're out law) - this was a major screw up from Ted Kennedy that stopped this bill dead in its tracks. He thinks MS13 gang members have as much right to be here as the apple pickers do
4) create stiff penalties for employers who hire illegal aliens - stop the jobs - stop the flood of illegals
5) Then we can talk about what to do with the rest of them. By this point, I believe enough Americans will have softened up on mass deportation of good families.

As a compromise to allow more immigrants to come in, I'd say that for every 2 illegals who is deported, one more immigrant may come in legally (there are 600,000 illegals currently ordered to deport who have not yet deported. This will allow 300,000 new immigrants in immediately and move out 600,000 bad guys).

By the way, why do you call yourself a Mexican-American? My family came from Lithuania, Sweden, and England. I am not a hyphenated American and you should not be either. That does not mean that you are ashamed of your heritage - it means you are proud of your new homeland. By hyphenating your citizenship, you will forever segregate yourself from American society.

Who says we can't deport them? If the INS had been doing their job and the Border Patrol had been funded the way they should have been from the "get go", we would not be having this problem.

If Bill Clinton had not granted amnesty back in the '90s, the illegal immigrants would have more reason to believe that we are serious about our immigration policy.

I am not claiming to have all of the answers, but if the people we elect would be more interested in protecting our borders and citizens from people like Mohamad Atta and Armando Garcia, we would be better off.

Don't get me wrong. I love Mexicans. I love their food, their culture, and their language.

Please get permission to come here, so we know who you are.

We can enforce the laws already on the books. Businesses, and employers have yet to be punished and fined for the continuance of encouraging illegals to come to the U.S. for hire.

Still we need to close all the loop holes, build the fence, and address many other issues. We need them done in a way that benefits Americans first. Both born Americans, and Naturalized citizens. Then all visas need to be just what they are intended for. Student, guest/holiday worker, travel... etc. And anyone looking to change any of those visas to another after they arrive need to be examined closely as to the real purpose and intentions of changing the visa they were originally issued.

The 1986 bill did not fail the American people. The politicians who voted for it, and then didn't have the balls to enforce them were our failures.

Enforce the LAWS already on the books.
Secure US Borders.
Build The Fence.
Cut ALL Social Services for ALL Illegal Aliens.
Clarify the 14th Amendment to end the Anchor Baby loophole nonsense.
Sovereignty is NOT Racism.

Added - I want to know when speaking of immigrants (who came from all over the world) why people like you insist on including the illegals as a part of immigrants who came here. Check the Ellis Island records if you want facts about how they came, and how they registered first and legally. Then go through immigration records and check out all those who again registered, applied, and came legally. There are three kinds of people here in this country. Americans and Naturalized American citizens. Native Americans included. Those who are, and came legally here. And the rest who are illegally here. Perhaps if people like you would stop insulting and including the illegals in your immigrant comments and statements, you might not be getting such a backlash from people over it.

And being a Native American in my own country - you would understand why I take offense to illegals being here, and you trying to include them as immigrants. What exactly do you think they (most immigrants) did to my people and my country? Outside of the French (with whom we connected with), the rest were pretty brutal. And it just got worse when they forced my ancestors onto reservations, gave them infected blankets of small pox, rotten meat for food, shot and killed the old, crippled, women and children who were un-armed in the encampments. So don't give me the sad pity stories of the illegal people who are here now, and what may or may not happen to them.

And the American government doesn't break up those families. They do it to themselves. Or do you still not know, and understand that babies born here to non-citizens, and non-residents are not American citizens. Not even automatically. Or do you like others keep telling a lie so often that it becomes truth to you?

One more thing - Other countries watch America to se how they handle things. And deporting all of the illegals would not destroy our reputation. In fact when America is able to deport them all, and this will happen when the laws on the books are enforced. The other countries will follow suit to get rid of their illegals as well.

Some point out that no law is 100% enforced. It's impossible to catch all speeders. So do we just let people speed? Probably not.

It's impossible catch all rapists, burglars. Should we allow free for all? Allow rapes? Probably not.

It is impossible to deport all people. But we should still enforce laws as it is. Do what our resources allow. And I think any change should be to increase penalties. Harsher penalties should discourage people, but will not stop this whole illegal immigration.

I think they're trying to do too much at once. The bill got bunch of crap. It's too much at once.

I would just propose bill on just revised penalty. And separate bills later on to address all the guest worker program and other crap.

The only possible solution, which will be the least costly, is terms of "deporting" these workers, are doing sweeps in all major cities, of all businesses, making sure all workers are legal, and if they are found to have illegals, fining them, for each undocumented worker....That way, these workers will leave voluntarily, it would generate income from the fines from businesses violating the labor and immigration laws....That was done in my border city, right after the 1986 amnesty, the local border agents went to all business and required all workers legal documents...It forced many workers to voluntarily leave because they no longer had work...And it actually worked!

With proper workplace enforcement, tamperproof IDs and proper border security, wont have to deport them all because without work, they will go home on their own.

Crack down with a HUGE stick on the employers who are giving jobs to the illegals. End the demand for workers and the supply will dry up eventually. Will it mean higher prices for Americans? Yes. But the alternative is "continue to sell out our country to illegals" and that's not an option.

What do we do with the 12 million criminals who are here? We deport them. Slowly, maybe, but dammit we ENFORCE the laws that we have on the books (the ones that the illegals are thumbing their noses at) instead of just giving up and saying "You win. Welcome to America."

If I steal cable for ten years, I can't expect Time Warner to suddenly give it to me for free "because I got away with it" for a decade. Why do illegals think that they should be treated any differently than anyone else who breaks the law?
