Do you know what happens to stow-aways on ships?

Question

Did you know that people coming from countries in places like Africa who are fleeing torture at home, often jump aboard a ship to come to the US? Maybe you did know that, but did you know that if a ship docks at a US port and a stowaway is found, the ship has to pay a huge fine to the US goverment? So, it might not come as a surprise that if the stowaway is discovered on the sea, it is common for them to be tossed off the ship?

What do you think about that?

I'm not making reference to a movie. This actually happens.

No, stowaways who are discovered on board are NOT thrown overboard. That would be inhuman.

At the end port, they can be deported back to their country of origin or apply for asylum if they have a valid case (this is very rare), and be required to pay for their passage. They can be jailed also.

The company is not fined unless there is some kind of "smuggling" operation involved.

The stowaways can however be fined or imprisoned.

These people know that they are dealing with ruthless smugglers before they agree to get on the boat.

I think that they should reconsider "hiding" where the smugglers tell them to. Maybe they should try and be real stowaways...actually hide from the crew instead of promising to pay or work for the passage.

Most would not toss them off a ship at sea. Generally, international law applies, and law relevant to the nation of the ships registry. It is not very common anymore for stowaways to happen, as port security is much tighter, very much like an airport, then in the past.

That's not truth u.s departments of transportation, shipping, & government as well do not give fine or seeking legal action against any foreign ship co. arrive in u.s with stowaway discover on it.

Please supply a resource for the fine part. Fine can be imposed for aiding someone to enter illegally. If reported to immigration, a stowaway would not result in a fine.

That would be murder. Most of us saw the movie you're talking about.
They would be detained and turned over to the authorities when they dock.

if you go about these things please look into your past ancestors, how many in your own family has other back grounds, Italians,Indians,Hispanic,black,Chinese and so on, what if people struck out at your family thank before you leap.
