God do not punish humans for trying to gain knowledge, he punished them for disobeying his command. There is nothing wrong with trying to learn, but eating the forbidden fruit was not to gain knowledge but just to see if what God had promised would really happen. Eve's motive for eating it was not to "gain knowledge" but just to disobey and test her maker. She had been tempted and wanted to see for herself. Eating the forbidden fruit did not make her gain knowledge, it made her lose her purity and innocence. Why do you punish your children? Is it to hurt them or make them mad or take their fun away? I punish my kids because I love them and I want them to do right and not get hurt. God is the same way, he punishes us because he loves us and does not want to see us bring so much suffering upon ourselves.

There was a punishment set for eating the fruit. They disobeyed God's commandment, so they had to leave the garden and they were also told that they would die. It was a plan that God had from the beginning. God actually wanted them to eat the fruit. But, He had to have it be their own choice. By choosing to eat the fruit, they now could know the difference between good and evil. Before they were living in a happy land with no real trials. They didn't have children, because I don't know if they had any desire for sex. Maybe they didn't even realize there was such a thing, because they didn't realize that they were naked. They realized they were naked after they ate the fruit. God had to punish them because they disobeyed one of his commandments and God has to be just. But, God knew that they would eat the fruit and it was all part of the plan to start a new world and for the spirits in heaven to be able to come down and get a body. Getting a body is very important because it helps us gain experience and makes us grow stronger. Christ's atonement fixes death. Death was the punishment for eating the fruit. But Christ overcame death and made it so all of us can overcome death. We will all live again. If this makes sense and feels right to you, check out http://www.mormon.org

god gave adam and eve a direct order. yet at the same time an option. they disobeyed and god wanted to teach them a lesson for when they do not obey.

maybe eve with her intuition knew that maybe one day, god would turn against us and we would have to fend for ourselves. i.e. learn the how-to's (if you read genesis 1:26, you will discover 'god' for a verse was of plural form)

eve never ate an apple, she ate the fruit of knowledge. not the skin, nor the core. she ate it. she didn't learn it, she didn't study it.

keep in mind that adam is the masculine side. he is the yin. the fire. the logic. the conscious. the day. light.
eve is like the feminine side. she is the yang. the water. the intuition. the unconscious. the night. darkness.

eve is where you get evil, evening. poor women. at least the 1960's happened.

maybe to the order god gave them, there is a willing side and an unwilling side? the yes and the no?

personally, i am on lucifers side. buttons are there to push, why don't we get a little reckless here and not follow the rules?

Eve is not a real person, nor did she eat an apple.
The story is an allegory.

Adam & Eve = Singular
Adam = Soul
Eve = Universal Mind Power

The mind (within the sou)l tempted soul to partake in "knowledge" and the soul fell from grace. Quit blaming "Eve".

God punishes only those who choose to disobey.
And they had been warned not to touch the tree.
Would we allow our children to touch high voltage power lines, on the basis of them gaining electrical knowledge, or would we not permit it on the basis that it could kill them.
Because that is what you are saying.
Adam and Eve had ALL the other trees in the garden. It was ONLY this one they were NOT to touch.
(Genesis 2:16-17) And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”

Eve did not eat an apple. She ate from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This story contradicts Genesis 1's creation of humankind. So it seems to me that the point is to degrade women and blame women for men's stupidity..Thus, you justify your male god and depicting women as closer to the Devil and physical than men.

Did you "forget" the part where satan told her she would be like a God. And the fruit she partook of was not a stupid apple. She helped pollute the bloodline that Christ was to come through. At that point Adam and eve were a big disappointment. Rlamas_06 is correct but i don't know if he realizes that Satan was Cain's father.

In the story of Adam and Eve in the Torah, God didn't punish them for trying to gain knowlege; they didn't know WHY God had forbade them from eating the fruit, after all. God punished them for disobeying him, not for wanting to know things.

Adam and Eve were there. Knew no good or wrong. They had no sin so God could be with them. Then God said do not eat that or your eyes will be open to sin and goodness.

Adam and Eve ate and their eyes were opened. They had sinned, so God threw them out because He does not tolerated sin. The tree gave them no knowledge except what sin was and what death was. That is it... No knowledge was gained.

on the completed, i might say no. the genuine sin replaced into failing to have faith God. Take yet another look on the serpent's temptation: he tells Eve that God has lied to her, that his genuine reason for forbidding the fruit is to maintain them from turning out to be like him. Then, having eaten it, they comprehend they are unprotected -- that's what "they observed they have been bare" incredibly ability -- and that they cover themselves from God because of the fact they are actually frightened of him. They went from a state of love and obedience to a state of mistrust and concern. i'm undecided with regards to the Hebrew be conscious translated "awareness" yet bear in mind that 'awareness' could be understood as 'adventure' extremely than 'gaining awareness of'.
