What are Worpswedders?

Are they a people, a kind of artist, an ethnic group..........?
I can't find anything I the net about this. Help!

Worpswede is a municipality in the district of Osterholz in Lower Saxony, Germany, northeast of Bremen in the Teufelsmoor (devil's bog).

The small town is located near the Weyerberg. The area of the municipality is 76.13 km². Since the end of the 19th century, it has become a lively artists' community, with over 130 artists and craftsmen working there.
