For an oval shaped head, I would go for the side swept ones. They blend in better with layers. I have hair like yours with side bangs and I like it. Here are some pros and cons.
Pros:
1. Not too hard to care for
2. Update your look
Cons:
1. Take awhile to grow out
2. Don't usually look good in humid weather
Hope this helps! :]

Since you have an oval face - you can get away w/ just about any haircut.
Pros of straight across bangs: 1) Modern, clean look 2) Very little styling needed
Cons: 1) Can make oily forehead worse 2) Frequent trims needed to keep them neat 3) Take more effort to grow out
Pros of side swept bangs 1) Versatile 2) Easy to style
3) Do not require frequent trims & easier to grow out
Cons: 1) Take getting used to 2) Need styling product to help keep in place 3) Time needed to grow out if you change your mind

Don't worry about whether they are coming or going out of style. I have had side-swept bangs for just about a year now and well sometimes they don't do what I want but most of the time they do especially since they are now trained. The disadvantage is that they can fall flat especially in this hot summer weather and well you can really do much but pull back. The advantage is that you can pull them back and reall y you have more versatility than you think. I love mine but I wish sometimes that they weren't so heavy and went less back into the hairline. Bangs that go across are harder because they are very heavy and harder to deal with. You can't really sweep them across your face well, because they need to be cut to sweep or cut to go straight down. I have been wanting to try the ones that go completely across my forehead but I think it would take away from my face. Hope that helps!

Pros:
1. cute
2. cover a large forehead
Cons:
1. Can get greasy then you breakout
2. For me, they are kind of hard to control since my hair is curly.
But overall, I think you should get them. Side swept might look better than across completely because of your oval face.

i have side swept bangs, but they are cut, so if i want bangs across my forhead, i can fix them like that. I love the look of side swept bangs. Bangs are coming back in style.

I think the worst part about wearing a fringe (bangs) is growing them out if you want to change it
get full bangs and bob your hair to lessen the layer look... they are THE fashion statement of the season... if you want to disguise them to alter your style you can always pull them back with a clip or sweep them to the side and pin them

Well if you have frizzy hair or either your hair gets frizzy in precipitation, bangs are not for you. However, I think the type of bangs you are talking about would be cute with an oval face.
So go for.
God bless
