Specifically, how they should not abandon them and how they should take care of them. How they should not teach them bad things, etc. Any help out there? Thanks!

There isn't a particular verse that instructs parents to take good care of their children... we should take examples from the different stories told in the Bible.
These are the verses i found closest to what you are asking for... Hope it helps.

2CO 12:14 Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not
be a burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you.
After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but
parents for their children.

EPH 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up
in the training and instruction of the Lord.

COL 3:21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become
discouraged.

1TH 2:11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals
with his own children,

1TI 3:4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey
him with proper respect.

5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take
care of God's church?)

12 A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his
children and his household well.

5:8 If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his
immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Good for you!

I don't have my Bible in this room, but there are a few.

One is Train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it.

There is also something about parents teaching Gods word to the children . Check out a good book on the topic ..either in a Christian book store or other book store. James Dobson is great on the care of the family. He is on many Christian radio stations and has books that are helpful. He is a wonderful man to learn from!

PS Find a church that has a good department for the children on Sundays.

1-800-AFAMILY is the phone number for Focus On The Family. PS Some of the answers above took scripture totally out of context.............it would be hard to explain online, but be careful of who you listen to. Many twist verses that aren't even believers and they don't understand or want to understand.

This is more for Sarge than you The Bible is has and always will be relevant and never does it say anything about taking care of your children and making them mind that could " put you in jail" I have seem many children raised with and w/o the Bible and Gods love and being one who was blessed to have been taught Gods Word and having it taught in a way that it wasn't considered a burden has gotten me through this world better than anything or one could God gives us children as a gift and we should treat them that way When mine are running around acting screaming and otherwise causing havoc I thank God that they can give me a headache because there are so many parents out there who would give anything to have their children be able to run scream play and live life. They are a different kind of blessing I know and for anyone who has these gifts never forget that children are a gift from God only second to salvation itself

Why the Bible? I wouldn't get ideas from there, unless you are willing to sacrifice your children, or perform acts that would put you in jail. Go to a library or bookstore, and get child rearing books instead. This is the 21st century. Teachings from that time may not be relevant or conform to modern society.

Jesus said, "Don't stop children from coming to me! Children like these are part of the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:14

" I'm ready to visit you for a third time, and I won't bother you for help. I don't want your possessions. Instead, I want you. Children shouldn't have to provide for their parents, but parents should provide for their children." 2 Cor. 12:14

Jesus wants parents to teach their children to believe in him.
