Im on a healthy diet(breakfast-healthy cereal lunch - salad, veggies, chicken breast, etc dinner - fish, shrimp, salad, veggies, fruit, etc snack - fruit, low fat protien bars) I dont drink soda and cut carbs and eat fewer calories. I brisk walk 5-6 miles a day. would it be okay to treat myself once a week?
icecream, fast food? I won't overdoe it. Could you give some examples of what I could treat myself with? would this effect my weight loss goals?

Successful dieting has a lot to do with not denying yourself. When you deny yourself something, you are more prone to binge! Be smart and allow yourself to eat what you want; just don't overdo.
I've lost over 50 pounds this way...also eating smarter like you, drinking more water, no soda, etc. But if I want something I don't deny myself either - and I don't feel guilty about it either!! In time, honestly, those cravings fade...the further you get into training your body to eat right! I don't purchase junk food for the house, but when I do now, after eating like this for six months or more, I tend to grab things that will satisfy the 'sweet' tooth without going overboard. Right now, strawberries are in season, so slice some up and enjoy.

If you're sure you could keep it down to once a week, as often once people "cheat" they abandon their good intentions, then there's no reason you can't have fast food once a week! It's good you're skipping the soda, which is empty calories. Enjoy your treat! ps, I don't eat red meat so can't imagine how anyone could consider a hamburger something special, but the chicken sounds like a little bit 'healthier' treat. And McDonald's stopped using oils containing trans fats for their fries, so they're better than they used to be! Add a green salad and you're good to go!

Yes, but try to replace unhealthy items for similar, but more healthy menu options. That way you are not denying yourself things you desire, but also not breaking your diet. For example, instead of ice cream, treat yourself to lowfat yougert with granola or frozen yougert. If you like fast food, just select options that are grilled chicken or turkey. At fast food places, feel free to order salads, just don't put on any salad dressing. Also, avoid french fries at fast food places, ask if you can substitute something else, like apples or a baked potato for french fries. Try eating carob cake; it's similar to chocolate cake, but more healthy. Studies have shown that eating 3-4 pieces of super dark chocolate candy a day can be healthy and benefit your heart. Just make sure to include the calories of these treats into your diet plan so that you continue to lose weight.

I treat myself once a week. I'll eat an ice cream sundae (small) or such. I would probably lose weight a little bit faster if I didn't. But I do want to enjoy SOME things in life, and I know I'll eventually get to where I want to be if I keep doing everything else right.

A few years ago I was on a diet that on Sunday's was impossible to do since my mom, sister & I would go to brunch after church. I would have my normal breakfast, what ever for lunch then for dinner was usually a piece of fruit. I still managed to loose weight.
