I just bring donuts with me. Nobody gets upset with "the guy that brought the donuts".

I don't think either response is appropriate. Long drawn out explanations start to sound like you are making excuses--or worse--that you are just making up an elaborate story to cover your butt. Saying, "Deal with it" isn't going to get you very far. If you have a legitimate reason for being late (stuck in the traffic jam of a bad wreck), then state that simply, and then move on. Whatever reason you give, if you are late often, it's going to seem less and less sincere.

The shorter the better... as long as it's not too often! A long drawn out explanation would add insult to injury with a busy boss and if he's not a boss well, I would say even less. Good workers are far and few in between these days and if that's the worst thing you do, they can thank God to have you.

I hate being late, so am not late unless I absolutely have to be, and then, I try to call ahead or at least tell my boss- sorry I'm late. no drawn out explanation though

it depends on wich boss i see first or wich one notices. i usually give a sorry im late to the insignifacant bosses and a long drawn out answer to the big boss.
none seem to care because i am late more often than not. LOL

I've been at the same job for 29 years and in all that time I've been late just twice. No explanation was necessary.

Neither. Being, the first they do not care about your lame excuse. The second this comment will get you terminated. Trying an apology, and maybe a civil explanation, and whew.. I am going to start leaving 15 minute earlier to avoid this situation again. Blah, blah, blah.

Depends where you work.
If your 17 years old, and work some random part time job, just be like sorry im late. If they ask why, then make up some bullshit, like traffic, or something.
If this is your actual full time job, if you get caught, just politely apologize, and explain what happened.

at my office,we dont need an explaination to anyone but instead work a little bit longer to cover the hours when we were late . but not to make it a habit though. and also just give a call to the office in case anyone else is looking for me

well, i dont think you should tell them to deal with it lol, even though i've wanted to more than a few times. but, i think instead, it mostly depends on the employer and how laid back they are. usually something about a family issue works, if you know the truth wont lol

Neither. You say, "Sorry I'm late. My bus was in an accident."
Just give a brief, succinct reason, and an apology, and then get on with your work.
