When I was in high school, I had mild to moderate breakouts. I started using Proactiv and loved it. That's been about 8 years ago. I still had the occassional breakout, but overall my skin looked great and felt great. Recently, I started using the Mary Kay Timewise line at the persistence of my sister, who is now a Mary Kay consultant. Well, I've been on it for about 2 weeks and my face is beginning to break out pretty bad. My sister says that that's a good thing, because it is cleaning out my pores....? She told me to give it a few more weeks to see an improvement. (which by then, who knows what my face will look like, if her theory is wrong) Anyway, I don't know if I'm buying the whole "cleaning out your pores" thing. Would it take two weeks to start doing that? And my face was perfectly fine before. I didn't know there was anything to clean out. I'd like to give it a chance, because of the supposed age-fighting benefits. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Your skin will renew itself every 4 weeks and it is true that the Mary Kay line will deep clean your pores and you may have a break out here and there.
I wasn't so sure myself when I first started using it. My face has always been pretty clear but when I started using the Timewise in Mary Kay, my face had acne everywhere. I stayed with it and wanted to use all of it before making my decision whether it worked for me or not. The whole line lasted me several months, so I had several months to see either improvement or worse problems. By the time I got to the last drops in all the products, I noticed my face was clearing up and very few signs of acne.
Then I thought I was smarter than my Mary Kay consultant and started using only the cleanser and moisturizer and leaving out the Day and Night solution and foundation. Boy, was that a mistake!!! My face started breaking out left and right but this time, the bumps were hard and painful!
When I told my consultant this she asked what steps I was taking. When I told her only the cleanser and moisturizer she told me to go back on the Day and Night solution and wear my foundation during the day and if it didn't clear up to call her within 2-weeks. It actually took a little longer than two weeks for the couple of painful bumps I had to go away, but when they did, I haven't changed my routine in several years and I have never had another painful bump or break outs since. (Now, I'll get a bump or two during that time of month.)
Let me educate you exactly what "allergic" reactions are. If you have acne appear during use of the product that is not an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction is when you have swelling, redness, itchy areas in result of any product.
(No one is allergic to Mary Kay, the lady passed away in Nov. of 2001!)
The overall gist, use the products in the manner intended. The products are designed to protect your face from the harmful elements out there.

You skin has a natural renewal process that is 4 week where the lower layer moves to the top layer. Blemishes start three week before it to come to the surface.
There are several types of reaction or break out from skin care it is true that when you change a skin care routine your sould give it type however you need to be comfortable with how much time depending on the type of reaction or breakouts oyu are having.
I recommend sitting down with her and trying other products sometime people try one Mary Kay line and say it doesn't work if you work with your consultant almost always you can find the right system for you skin.

Your sister is right. It can take a few weeks to clean junk from your pores and as your moisture level returns to normal (proactive does sever damage) you will break out less. The best thing is to never use Proactive again and keep going with the Mary Kay.
I started out just like you Proactive to Mary Kay and after almost 2 months of hell my skin started to feel amazing. Now a year later it just keeps getting better, I don't even need make up anymore, just my Mary Kay Time-wise skincare.

Okay, first when you don't have make-up on do you have a lot of red on your face? if you do then you need to get your sister to exchange your products. there is a skin condition called rosisolia (sorry don't know how to spell it). That causes the face to be red/pink. Mary Kay has a line of products for this that will not cause you to break out. Try this. have your sister ask her team leader about it. Also with trying any new product you should only change on thing at a time this way if you do have a reaction to it you will know what is causing it.

I am a woman in my 40's and i have tried Mary Kay twice in my life time. it did not work for me or my mother. I tried it when I was in my early twenty's and I broke out with acne very bad. The person who sold it to me kept telling me it was cleaning out my pores. (does that sound familiar) Finally after about a month I realized I was allergic to the product. Years later my aunt (who is my mothers sister) started using Mary Kay with beautiful results. Then i was told that this was a new formula that was allergenic free. So I tried it again and again I broke out with bad acne. This time when the Mary Kay rep. tried to tell me that it was cleaning out my pours I told her she was wrong, that i was allergic. I told her that it did not mean that her product was bad because my aunt used it with no problems but that i could not. I guess I get upset because people can buy a kit and all of a sudden they are experts in makeup and skin care Which is OK if the person buying the product doesn't have skin problems. So my advice to you is, listen to your body.it will let you know if something is not right. Nobody knows you better than yourself, unless they are a medical doctor and even then you should get a second opinion. If you want beautiful skin drink lots of water, take fiber, and eat well.

This is true. Proactiv does the same thing. In order to have clear skin you need to get rid of the dirt underneath. And yes it could take about a month of breakouts before clear skin appears.

Mary Kay can only treat your dead skin cells and is an utter waste of money. It does not matter what products you get outside a doctors office, even if it costs 100.'s of dollars, they are only allowed by FDA to treat DEAD skin. If you want to get serious about anti aging products, go to a med spa or doctors office. They have the stronger products that are designed to treat and repair your skin with a real result.

U may just have really sensitive skin or an allergy to salycic acid which is used in these products to help prevent breakouts. I have found that TRETINOIN CREAM which costs about the same and can be purchased over the internet is great too. U need to moisturize the next day after using it...but it helps clear your skin and is also good for aging skin. Check it out.
