All ducks are noisy, and the males are aggressive. The males will chase and pinch, they actually make good watch dogs until they pinch you. They are just like Roosters are, or like a Gander is. If you are not going to keep the ducks in a pen, they are also very messy. If you let them roam your yard you will be stepping in duck dooh.

YES! That's why they call them call ducks. These ducks were developed to 'call' in wild ducks to shoot them. The hunter would take his female call (or a couple) which had trimmed wings so it could not fly away, pop them in a large pocket in his jacket and take them to a pond. The leg of the duck would be tied so that the duck could swim around a bit and quack and draw the wild ducks down where the hunter would kill them. Then pop the duck back in the pocket along with the dead ducks. These ducks were designed to have a loud quack that could be heard from quite a distance away. The males are much quieter but it's very difficult to have only drakes (males) or more drakes than ducks because the drakes get very aggressive in the breeding season and will gang up on a few females or if no females are around, they will attack the weakest males and try to mate with them. It's not pretty. Although, on the plus side, calls are very calm ducks and easy to tame, they're small so a large number can fit in a relatively small space and they are being crossed in a number of very pretty colors. Also, keep in mind that ducks are fairly destructive for their size (although the calls make less of a mess than most). They like to take their water, and squirt it all over the ground and make mud, and then take the mud and sift it back into their water tub (so there's mud everywhere!) and they're also prone to digging in the mud and making holes that are about as long and deep as their head and neck (looking for worms and grubs) which can tear up a yard. And lastly, they need to have a lot of space or you need to clean their yard regularly because if you keep them confined permanently to a small space, it will smell very, very bad in a short amount of time.

All ducks make some noise. But I don't think ducks are noisy, definitely not like geese. I have had many ducks of several breeds, If my yard was fenced I would have them now. They are entertaining, friendly and just good looking birds. If you have the room and can provide for their needs they make great pets.

I raised call ducks for many years...and yes, they are noisy. They made more noise than my large breed ducks. And yes, they do fly, unless you clip their wings.
I have beeen seeing a trend more and more of mixed breed ducks (calls interbred with mallards and other smaller ducks) that are being sold as true calls...this may be where some confusion may come in. TRUE calls are noisy...their "call" is where they got their name.
They are cute little guys with sweet temperaments, though. : )

My call ducks are quiet, sweet little things. Great ducks.
They make a soft quack, and they don't mess nearly as much as the other birds on our farm. Our male is a sweet little thing. He's madly in love with the peahen (though she's one hundred times his size).
They don't fly, they are small, they are quiet, and they are fabulous little animals.
