DVDshrink maybe, but you'd lose any menu functions, and it would be a real pain.
if your burner has dual layer capability, get a blank dual layer dvd.

I've been using DVD2oneX for years, and it's never failed me. Just rip the dual layer original to the desktop, then compress to 4472 MB in DVD2oneX. It allows you to either leave the titles and menus, or nix them. Personlly, I think the menus and all the "extras" are worthless, so I get rid of them. This way you can pop in the DVD and it plays from the beginning of the movie automatically. This also keeps the video quality a little higher. Another great feature is bneing able to get rid of any audio tracks and/or subtitles you don't want (also allowing more room for better video quality). Use high quality media, though, as the cheap DVD blanks are not reliable (no offense, Memorex).

There are tons of software that can turn DVD9 to DVD5, such DVD2One, DVDRip, DVDShrink
