My favorite food is the chili that my dad used to make. Both of my parents have been dead for many years. But I have the chili recipe on an old, faded index card. When I make his chili I feel like I'm summoning the spirits of my family, and they show up to help me. If the house ever caught fire and I could save only one thing, it would be the old box of family recipes.

yikes! I wish you had put more specifics...oh well, I'll name my top 15 favourite things to eat:

1. FAGE greek yoghurt (cherry, honey, strawberry, and 0%)

2. blood-orange creme brulee

3. Shrimp Xacuti (shrimp cooked with coconut and a tamarind sauce)

4. baigan bhurta (spiced mashed eggplant cooked with tomatoes, onions, green peas, and spices. it's the ONLY way I'll eat eggplant)

5. potato latkes with dill, salmon, and sour cream OR spicy sweet potato latkes with applesauce (depends on my mood)

6. fresh fruit and honey and mint (I eat fresh fruit all the time)

7. avocado eggrolls (from The Cheesecake Factory)

8. my mum's spicy chicken cutlets (she makes them just the way I like them and they're healthy too!)

9. a traditional costa rican salad made from shrimp, very spicy salsa, and avocados (I add minced habaneros to mine)

10. shrimp ceviche

11. hawaiian lehua honey and sweet cream ice cream (haagen-dazs); fresh coconut ice cream or mango sorbet are also very tough to resist.

12. pizza with fresh basil, fresh mozzarella and portobello mushroom

13. banana-stuffed french toast

14. a great grilled cheese made with cheddar cheese (pepper jack and smoked gouda are also really good) and challah bread (add tobasco sauce and black pepper to taste)

15. a green apple and brie omelette OR a green apple, brie and smoked turkey on french baguette with dijon mustard (again, it depends on my mood)

These are 15 items that I really like out of many that I won't name because it would take aeons to list them. I also refrained from mentioning any beverages because you mentioned used the word "food". "beverages" is an entire category on its own!
