1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15 but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; 16 yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

Yes you should. It will help you to actually think about what you believe. The Bible commands you to do this so they will know the reason for your faith. You will almost always be wrong because you have not really thought much about what you believe. We who do not believe have thought A LOT about it, which is why we don;t believe. You, most likely, believe because of emotions. You were at some youth conference and the youth pastor was singing "Just as I am" and you felt overwhelmed by the "Spirit" and you went up to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior. Cute. Now what is it that you believe? Where did it come from? Is it the first belief of its kind? What happened in the years between Jesus' death and the 50 years until the gospels are written? What did the books of the Bible that were thrown out say? You don't know because you are wrapped up in emotion. Start thinking. If you think that "thoughts" threaten your faith...you should re"think" it.

I think that Christians should defend their faith.
Just like I will always debate them.
The problem is that what you classify as "unbelievers" are really looking to you to answer their question in a dignified and logical answer, Instead of "cuz the bible told me" Or the "guy at the church taught me this".
Belief should be within yourself. And what Plumpdn said is 100% correct

If they make fun, feel free to ignore them. If they raise serious questions - whether historical, theological, or anything else - then they deserve to be thought about and given thoughtful replies. I felt it necessary to say this, since some people consider anything that disagrees with their views and assumptions an 'attack'.
