A steady job for high school students. For example, being an umpire or referee is a pretty steady job for other sports where there are lots of games and you can just work with the league or team. But running's a little more difficult since there's not one big league to run all the meets. Not only that but running events usually take volunteers.
I wouldn't mind but at the same time I do need the money now and a job would give me a reason to be out at the events more often.

Yes, it is an extremely high paying career
but, alas, completely illegal
it is called "numbers running"
and a lot of people have gone to jail for a long long time
pursuing this line of work !!!

Then there is the Sister operation
which is also extremely well paid, and even more illegal than the aforementioned job --- it has to do with the arms trade -- this is called "Gun running" and people have been known to be shot while at this pursuit ----

Best idea here --- and it's legal --- get a job in a shoe store specializing in running shoes --- highly unlikely that you will be shot OR go to jail doing THIS --- but, alas, the pay is somewhat lacking --- unless you own the place !!!

Hmm. It's a tough business for making a living. There are a few big race organizations, like the New York Road Runners. The shoes companies certainly have some people. The running magazines have a small staff and some free-lance writers. Locally, some finish-line crews scratch out some spare money. Officials can pick up a few bucks on the side as well.

In other words, your chances are pretty limited unless you want to do it as something of a hobby. Good luck.

couriers in big cities use bicyles and foot power to get paperwork across town in short periods of time when business can't wait for FedEx.

The could use some of your athletic skills.

Your local health club may need a running coach for a few hours a week. http://www.ballyjobs.com/

guess the races will probably be non-profit unless you win.

The previous answers all have to do with dogs and vets. However, you can always do something involving herpetology, icthyology, ornothology. any of these would work. They are all fun, interesting fields. Universities all over the country and the world are looking for researchers... Anything in the field of Zoology is incredible.
