Ok...so heres the story...
We have a decoration on the outside of our front door in which a family of birds decided to make their home. Just recently the eggs of the birds hatched and the mom has been their the whole time as we get into the house via the garage.....anyway... we have been avoiding the front door but my brother opened it up the other day causing the mom to fly out in a jolt but run into the wall and fall down. For the past 2 days, the mom has not been there and we are worried that the babies will die from a lack of food, warmth, tc.. What do we do to keep them alive. Thanks!

p.s. This is honestly a serious answer, please don't be rude. Thanks again.

If the mother hasn't been back in two days the chicks might already be dead sadly depending on how old they are.

The best thing you can do if you want to try and save them is to set up a room in your house for them and start hand feeding. Go to the pet store and buy baby bird hand feeding formula. There are a number of other things you'll need and I'll put a link at the end of a great hand feeding site. It's for cockatiels but will work just the same for your wild baby birds.

If you take them in just understand that you will need to keep them for the rest of their lives as they will not be able to go back to the wild and this will mean you need to get a licence to do so.

However if it is warm outside many birds stop sitting on their chicks after they are old enough to keep heat on their own. My own birds never sit on their chicks for more then 15 days after they hatch even when some are very small still. Many times the parents will fly in feed the babys quickly and then leave to watch from high above the nest.

After two days if they are alive someone is feeding them.

If the baby chicks have hatched and the mum hasnt been there for two days then they would be dead,

It is impossible for any baby bird to surrvive more than 12hrs without being fed, and then the fact of keeping it warm also, it would die from the cold,

So if they are still alive then i can say that 100% mum or dad are still around and are still feeding the chicks, you may not see them but as i said they would be dead, they cant go that long without having food,

You asked what to do to keep them alive, this would require knowledge, and if u have never done this before i would sugest leaving them alone as its alot of hard work,

Your best chance of them surrving (if infact they are still alive) is to leave them where they are!

Also one other thing, if you was to take them and rear them, they would never survive outside when they are old enough as they would be too attached to humans and wouldnt see them as a threat like other birds do, also they would see humans as a place they get there fod from, they also wouldnt know how to find food in the wild as you have been giving them it,

Goodluck.

Many times the father will take care of baby birds when the mother is injured or killed. The best time to check on the nest is right after sundown.

If the father is not there, you need to contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You should be able to find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm
These people have the training and the resources to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild birds.

Please do not try to care for these birds yourself. In the US, it is illegal to keep most native species without the proper permits. Also, without the proper training, you can do more harm than good. I like what this website has to say: "First of all, there are federal and state laws that prohibit keeping wild birds. And there are so many important but subtle elements to raising a wild bird that the job is only legally entrusted to licensed rehabilitators. Many well-meaning people raise baby birds or rescue birds from cats or after accidents, and sometimes they don't realize that the bird in their care is suffering from a serious dietary deficiency. Some of the problems aren't apparent to untrained people, but can cause death, or make the bird less likely to evade predators or to survive harsh natural weather conditions."

Are you positive the mother hasn't been back? If she hasn't then if you want the birds to live you need to take measures. I suggest trying first to contact any local wild animal rescue agency but if one isn't available then you will have to get some baby bird food from the store to try out with the babies as well as a heat lamp to keep them warm.

I would think they would not have survived this long if someone was not caring for them. Either the mother survived the fall or the adult male is feeding them. You need to watch the nest continually to watch for an adult coming to feed. You should do this from a distance so as you are not seen by the bird...this can keep them from coming to the nest. They may come quickly to feed so if you look away you may miss them. If these babies are truly abandoned by BOTH parents..you would need to get them to a local wildlife rehab.

you can "adopt" them for a while until the're old enough on their own. The mother will most probably not come back though that would be a contradiction to WHAT mothers are. The mother could always have more babies and since the incident has caused her trauma, it would be best if you took care of the babies but I recommend that you don't get too attached because sooner or later you're still gonna have to let go.

sigh it is no longer curtsey! a great form of human beings say that! there is an "order of priority." this implies who gets to circulate right into a room first, e.g., a ideal dinner occasion, the place they take a seat, etc. Curtsying is a factor of it, however the guidelines gadgets out who's who, and is no longer a command to curtsy. And, in fact, and inheritor to the Throne could come previous to somebody marrying in to the kinfolk. that may not supply up her from being mom, and the boss, yet, she would be at the back of the hot newborn interior the order of priority.

Is the mom still laying there are did she fly off? If she is OK, should return, if not then contact a licensed rehabber (see www.wildliferehabber.com. )
