I have a minor battery charge that is keeping me from getting a job.
Should I get a lawyer, or should I call the court and ask for forms to fill out?
Also, if I should hire a lawyer, how much do you think it would cost?

i would consult with a lawyer and ask several of them how to proceed. sometimes even if there is a conviction you can have that vacated. i would try to get it off your record.

You were charged but were you convicted? Did you plea out of it?

If there is NO conviction then you simply ask for your record to be expunged from the judge who heard the case.

If there is a conviction and your not a minor then it stays.

I saw an ad just recently.
The lawyer asks a retainer of $ 375.00
Total fees might be $ 800.00- -900.00.

If you committed the battery while you were an adult (18 or over), it can't be expunged. Expungement is only for people whose crime was committed when they were juveniles.

If you were 18 or older, your record will follow you all your life....nothing you can do about it.
