dermatologists, plastic surgeons
I am not a huge fan of cosmetic surgeons - it is my experience that they were "other" types of doctors and went into the cosmetic surgery stuff for the money - plastic surgeons are more credentialed.
Many tattoo studios can recommend who they like in the area and often the clients get a discount for that referral. Otherwise, call your local hospital's doctor referral department and tell them specifically what you are looking for - that you want someone with a lot of experience.
All lasers are not created equally - be sure they have the laser for the color you need removed.

I think you just need to set your expectations. I have two tattoos, a playboy bunny on each arm, that I wish I could just wash off. I visited a laser removal doctor, and he was pretty straight with me. Not only is it very expensive, but there is a good chance not all the colors would be removed, and there could be scarring. Plus it may take up to a year and a half, something like 18 visits. Once I saw that Holly Madison's bunny was not removed completely, I gave up on removing them :( The only thing worse than permanently wearing colorful bunnies would be to be wearing faded, scarred bunnies. The best thing is to get a coverup, and the laser would reduce the ink enough to allow for a wider variety of coverup options.

I am actually having a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon this Thursday. Among other things, they do laser tattoo removal. It will cost me $325 a session, one session a month, usually takes 3-5 sessions to completely remove the tattoo and even then you may have a "ghost" tattoo left on the skin. Many places have payment plans and the surgeon actually told me about another option which I feel is out of the question for me: Literally removing the tattoo by surgery (i.e. cutting the skin off leaving a really big scar, with internal stitches, etc). But check with the local plastic surgeons, but make sure you check out their license's, before and after pics, etc.

Call your doctor and/or the hospital........they should be able to tell you.
But, beware, removal will hurt a lot more than the tat and it will
probably cost more that your tat did. It's like 80 bucks a session and depending on the tat, you will have to go back several times..................it also will leave a scar.
Have you thought of just trying to cover it with another tat?
That might be the best way to go...............?
good luck with your choice
