Sounds ok to me.
I think if a guy wants to be alone with his girl say on a weekend he may ask this question to check there wont be any disturbances. Especially if he wants to go for the mattress mumbo. The last thing you want is a knock at the door, a text or phone call destroying your rhythm now!
So its just common interest and possibly clearing the way for better things.

it could mean either, he's just making small talk and genuinely interested about your circle of friends, or it could mean he has a soft spot for her.
