Teeth whitening products contain carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These chemicals can be harmful to your gums and can increase the sensitivity of your teeth. Also, do not try to whiten your teeth if you have any cavities as it may further exacerbate your condition. In addition, you must consider that fillings and other cosmetic dentistry will not whiten as your teeth do. Fillings behind your front teeth can be especially problematic.

Answer: The risks are damage to your gums and increased tooth sensitivity, but many people experience neither.
