Acquiring knowledge and Technology is the western idea of what progress is, but I don't think it is really progress. I think Taoism has a different idea of what progress is.
Technology isn't all good. Technology has made people materialistic. People think having all the latest technology will make them happy. It won't. Technology creates more pollution, according to the scientists working for the United Nations it is causing the earth's climate to change. Some things to come from technology have been bad.
It says in the Tao Te Ching the more knowledge people have the stranger the things that will appear. It's true. We have human cloning, human animal hybrids, nuclear weapons, biological weapons, abortion, etc. I don't consider that stuff to be progress.

Taoism is progress without progress. Technology is not progress, and neither is progress. Don't be fooled. You may find progress yet.

I don't think that's right. I think it's more about understanding oneself first, and recognizing that technology is but a tool. Technology has always existed, it is how we use it that is a problem.
