Well its my only proof that I am 18, as I don't have a driver's license yet. It is a picture ID.

Does anyone have any experience using this to get into a bar?

As long as it is a photo ID with your age on it you shouldn't have a problem. You might get some funny looks from the checker and he might ask for some else to verify that you are a Canadian citizen but if you are of age and you pass his inspection you will get in. The keys are it has to be a PHOTO ID and it must have your AGE on it.

Passports will be accepted anywhere, with few exceptions. Other forms of government-issued identification should be accepted by most establishments, but then each country has its own rules and requirements. Your age in the photo on your ID may be an issue and cause for suspicion, but if that is your main concern, just make sure to carry at least two forms of photo identification (citizenship card + a driver's liscence, a bank/ATM card if it has a photo, passport, greenfcard, etc). Most places will not refuse entry if you can provide multiple identification.

Ewww.. that nice certificate of citizenship is going to get gross (especially when some twit accidentally spills their drinks on you). Go get a driver's licence or visit the place that issues them and see if they do ID cards if you don't want a driver's licence.
I would say that it would be better off to use an expired passport because at least that has photo ID.

Bring your drivers license. Bars and clubs can reject any id they are not familiar with. Drivers license is the most acceped ID when being carded for liquor or tobacco.
A military ID is also accepted in some places.

A government ID should do. They may be puzzled, but what else are you supposed to have?

Only some states will let you drink at 18 though.

I've never heard of citizenship being a criterion for bar admittance.
