Years ago I would put on new age or Sitar music (no Lyrics or discordant notes) .have a candle flame or dangling crystal in soft focus (sort of looking through it) This distracts the reptile mind so you can be on a higher level. Find a comfortable position in a dimly lit room. Relax my breathing until it was even. This stops the body from interrupting you. Let any stray thoughts pass through my mind. Let go of the past. Let the future unfold by itself. Be here now. And see where it takes me.
Now after many years I can get there in a quiet spot whenever I need to. Usually before and after I sleep and sometimes before a stressful event I know is coming up.
This work for me. Your mileage may vary.

I find meditative moments come on me when I least expect them sometimes. Being near the ocean and listening to the waves and closing my eyes and smelling the ocean and hearing the gulls, that gets me in a whole other world, but only if it isn't too cold. I need some warm sun on me. Also, when I am working really hard in the garden, on a job that takes a lot of repetitive motions and some strength, like digging, I visualize the earth I am digging into and I can "see" the worms and bugs whose little lives I am touching.....Also, I have a CD of healing bells, and chants to the Goddess, and Oh Great Spirit, which I listen to in the garden. One of my favorite places is to lay in the hammock in my backyard , under the oak trees, close my eyes and listen to all the different bird calls. Also, when I call the Quarters in the morning, I call upon the Spirit at the end and raise my arms to the sky, I feel transformed. One of my older Chinese students was teaching my class tai chi,, and when she held her right hand, cupped, over her left hand, also cupped, about 1 foot apart, making an invisible "globe" I felt warmth travel between my hands when I tried it, it was like holding energy. It was neat.
These are some of the things I have done. What sort of stuff do you do? I'd love to hear about them!
Bright blessings,
Lady Morgana )0(

1. Sometimes. Though usually not on purpose. I find candles mezmerizing.
2. No, not really.
3. Yes, sometimes I talk to myself, but that would only be a problem if I started answering myself, now wouldn't it? Everyone talks to themselves sometimes.
4. No, I don't drum. I don't like the sound unless its part of other music.
5. Yes, New Orleans.

I listen to instrumental/nature music, try to clear my mind and open myself up to the energies and forces around me. Sometimes I'll light incense but often I forget or don't think of it. lol. Though I have been wanting to learn drums and flute so I could incorporate that into my meditations.

When I started, I needed a candle for focus. Now I just need to be comfortable and relaxed. My favorite place is, of course, the beach, the sound of the waves is very conducive to meditation for me. I don't usually get that chance though. =(

all the pagans I've ever known just kick back on their Harley and go for a ride in the country.if you want a meditative chant try nom myoho renge kyo ....imagine an orb like the moon shrunk to fit through your nostril as it goes behind your nose hold it there while chanting then down to the throat area then the stomach behind the bellybutton all the while chanting with hands cupped sitting in the lotus position . left nostril female and through right nostril for the male.good luck!

I throw up a circle mentally. I don't have time to really put up a proper on unless I am in ritual. I imagine big ball of gold fire around me. When I feel like its closed, I sort of slow down my thoughts until they get really random. I know that sounds weird but when I let my thoughts naturally flow, I usually find answers. I also keep one palm up for the Goddess and one down for the God. That's about it. I keep it simple.

i don't normally meditate long and the best luck I've had is doing something mundane. Washing dishes, pulling weeds are too good ways for me.
