I try to assume that we will have an extra person or two with us when something goes down. I assume that someone will need refuge. I would never turn down someone at my door. I always try to keep extra food, water, medicine and first aid stuff. They have to bring their own clothes...

my neighbors won't fit in the kit, silly....seriously, though, i have the most fantastic neighbors-we all looked after each other when hurricane isobel came thru...a few years back we had a Christmas eve ice storm that knocked out power for almost 2 weeks-on Christmas morning we were awakened by the sounds of chainsaws cutting their way up our road and down our driveway...we keep an eye out for each other...i am truly blessed in that respect...

I think about how I can best avoid them so they don't take advantage of me; steal from me and kill me.
