"to thine own self...." exactly what it is - selfishness
"live and let live"... means "I live for myself and I don't much care what you do with your life"
"live and let die".... see above
EDIT: the above mantras are NOT something that I would ever subscribe to in my life.
Dr. K. - wrong. (assuming you mean "Dr." Kavorkian)
blessings :)

Simple...be yourself and don't try to emulate others. Each of us are individuals and unique to this world, "To Thine Own Self Be True". Yes, live and let live as long as the person's behavior doesn't effect others in a negative way. I being in the Health Care field understand why Dr. K thinks the way he does. We just have to make sure the laws will protect individuals from those with a personal agenda.

Be true to yourself, because that is the root of all happiness. It has been said that you should love yourself first before others, for without the self-respect and love, how would you expect others to respect and love you? Betraying yourself would mean to deny yourself from the true happiness that you seek for and deserve. For example if you're in a relationship that you're not completely in tune with, in that you're not in love with the person you are with, yet for the sake of the other person you continue pouring time and energy, you will eventually feel the heaviness in your heart because everything that you do is not what you really want. In the end, even if you have somebody to love you, you won't be happy because your mind and soul are not satisfied. It actually applies to all aspects in life. When it comes to your job, they say if you love what you do, it won't be work. So bottom line, love and be honest to yourself, only then will you find the meaning of true happiness.

to thine own self be true... it means that above all, be honest with yourself. Live and let live is my policy. Live and Let Die is a very good song written and performed by the most talented person to walk the earth.

Ultimately, if you betray yourself and what you believe in then you have nothing. As for Dr. Kervorkian, he violated his Hippocratic Oath, what he did, he did to help people and I have little trouble with it. It is wrong to break an oath. He vowed that he would not use his knowledge to take a human life, he broke his vow. That was wrong, helping those people, nothing wrong with that.

To thine own self be true means that you have to practice what you preach and follow your heart.
It's from Shakespeare's Hamlet.

to me, the phrase "to thine own self be true" means a few things.
it means that i need to follow what i believe, with my own heart, to be true.
that i should not be influenced by others.
i should not do things to please other people.
I need to be true to what i believe in

It means be true to yourself.
Dr.K. has not been given the power of deciding who lives and who dies.
