We found the little guy and believe he was only about 3 weeks old. He is now around 6 weeks. We are planning on getting him to the vet within the next 2 weeks, but are just wondering if anyone can give us an idea as to how much we should expect to pay for a surgery to correct this. I have never had to face this with any of my other cats.

Are you positive that it is a he? If so, I can only tell you what they did for me. My female had one and they took it out when they spayed her. They did not charge me extra, because they were going to be in there anyway. I cost around $200. It is very easy to think you have one sex and find out that you have another in kittens this young. But at 6 weeks, he is probably showing things. My Prints, I bottle raised from around 3 weeks. She started out as Prince, and she had been to the vet many times. They did not tell me that he was a she until she was almost 8 weeks old. I changed her name to Prints because she was already coming to Prince. (wow, how confusing) any way, I would have sworn up until she was nine weeks old that she had jewels.lol

Since it's male, it will cost slightly more than female. Our vet told us its no problem at all to fix the hernia while they are spaying/neutering a cat. Let me just say that they might not neuter him yet, most vets wait until about 6 months of age. This is because everything is so small that it's hard to do without special training (like vets have in a ASPCA setting) As long as the hernia stays open and doesn't get larger, you can wait for him to be 6 months old.

Ask around, call different vets to get a pricing, as well as the Humane Society (ask them if they ahve a vet they use etc). Also find out which if these offer payment plans.

I don't know how much the price differs for a small dog, but my sister had to have the hernia surgery for her Yorkie and it was & $270.00 Good luck to you and your new kitten.

Each vets prices are different. It is going to be less expensive to get it fixed when you take him to get neutered....since the cat will already be under anesthesia.

Call your vet and get an estimate. They will be happy to get one for you.

good luck
